If you got here you must be curious. Don't miss this chance to purchase one of the finest rock albums (in my view) of all time. From the great opening hook-fest of Just Like Fire Would to the epic melancholy of All Fool's Day via the moody twang of Blues on My Mind this is a real stand out that the band were justifiably proud of when originally released.

Chris Bailey's ludicrously over the top cowpunk drawl is never better suited to this, arguably the Saints' finest album. Always having to lug around the punk baggage-label of 'I'm Stranded' outside of Australia, 'All Fools Day' marks a peak in the band's songwriting. 'Just like Fire Would' is a huge hook-filled opener, 'Temple of the Lord' a brassy stomp, 'Love or Imagination' a twee plucky string verse ensnared my a menacing, broody chorus. High points for me are the moody, Gelb-like desertscape of 'Blues on my Mind' and the epic melancholy of the closing title track that you feel Bailey would have added pipes and drums to if the budget had stretched. I never really got on with other Saints albums, much in the same way that the Church ceased to impress after 'The Blurred Crusade'.However, buy these two albums and I'll say you'll not find a better introduction to great Antipodean rock music, without a Jimmy Barnes mullet in sight.

a punk band with soul... 15 Sept. 2000
By Randy Garibay - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Thank you Amazon.com for giving me a chance to re-discover one of my favorite records from the '80's, which is not to say that it sounds dated at all. Ten years had passed since Chris Bailey and the awesome-aussies known as the Saints released their first album, the vicious "(I'm) Stranded" and their music had grown by leaps and bounds. "All Fool's Day" deserves a place beside some of the greatest rock and roll records of all time. "Let it Bleed","Who's Next","London Callling","Imperial Bedroom", I'd put this record against any of them. Chris Bailey IS the Saints and his voice had aged like fine wine by the time this album was conceived, giving him a very Van Morrrison like growl. And the boy has got soul, always had. The lead-off track "Just Like Fire Would," actually had minor rotation on MTV at the time, but there is so much more. From the slashing guitar of "First Time" to the majestic beauty of "Celtic Ballad," Bailey colors his songs with an awesome horn section, traditional folk instruments, and always, hard rockin guitar. In a perfect world, "Temple of the Lord" would have been a hit single. As the band hammers that motown beat behind him, Bailey and Co. rock this song with such abandon that it feels like a worship service in the Church of Rock and Roll and Chris Bailey is the preacher. All Fool's Day" will lift you out of your musical doldrums, it is perfect from first to last cut. This album made a believer of me, the Saints rule!

Not Punk but classic alt rock 23 Dec. 2010
By Mitchell Howard - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Terrific band the Saints, described as Punk or Post punk but most assuredly not. This collction higlights their similarity to other notable Australian bands, Church, Go-Betweens etc. and what is it about Australian vocalists, you can hear their accent when they sing unlike the english, American and kiwi vocalists. yes the Aussies still possess that nasal twang even when singing. But when the lyrical content is love and vast open spaces it kinda works. The Saints are Chris Bailey and this album shows them at their Clash/Cheap Trick-like best. A great pop/rock album with humming guitars all delivered in an almost gaelic/celtic spirit. "Celtic Ballad", I guess I'm being a little obvious. Great songs 5 or 6 real stand outs, the afore mentioned is my fave, also "Just like fire would" and "Stranded in Paradise" and "Temple of the Lord" are gems too. Re-visit this if you loved it in your youth or if you are a fan of Fountains of Wayne, Matthew sweet, the Replacements and Big Star, then check the Saints out yet another forgotten rock act down a twisting turning rocky path.

Saints Australia's best export 12 April 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I found this a couple of months ago in a used cd bin. I was attracted to the name and the album cover. I played it expecting to hate it and I ended up loving it. From Just Like Fire Would to the beautiful See you in Paradise and the title song,I just can't get enough of Chris Bailey and his Saints. This cd has everything, pop, soul and a little gosple thrown in. Love or Imagination, this cd is all you need.

A feast of folk-rocking pop! 4 Nov. 2012
By Hans - Published on Amazon.com

Chris Bailey takes his powerful pipes on a tour of Van Morrison and Mick Jagger's neighborhoods, with splendid results. Killer songwriting, soulful delivery and superb production. It does not have the galloping pace of the Saints when they were punk, but instead cooks with understated energy.

I was pleasantly surprised by this cd, very good music from this band that I had only heard one song from before. I would say this is an overlooked band.
