4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good romance and suspense 2 Jan. 2013
By Joan N. - Published on
I have read many of Hinze's later novels, especially those released in the Christian genre. Having really liked what I'd read, I wanted to see how she did in the "secular" romance and suspense areas.
I did enjoy the book. This is definitely a character driven novel, even though there is plenty of action, especially at the end. The heroine has experienced abuse from her husband and the hero witnessed the abuse his father dealt to his mother. There is also a first grader who plays a part in this book and he is being roughed up by his father. Part of the character development is the growth of each of them through the scars left by the abuse to the ability to love again.
The suspense is decent, although not Hinze's best, I think. We are introduced to work being done to prevent the U.S. being attacked by WMD. There are parts of the plot that did seem a little unreasonable to me, but given this is an early work from Hinze, not bad at all.
I was surprised to find that this is a re-release of the book from October of 2000.

For those who have read Hinze in the Christian genre, there is some language and immorality in this book. It is suitable to the general public, in rather good taste, and the immorality is certainly not descriptive.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Suspense and tension 12 Jan. 2013

Format:Kindle Edition

It was a nail biter. Lots of drama, action and dealing with abuse and overcoming it.
My heart was racing reading one part of the book. I really was into it.
Former Air Force scientist Dr. Julia Warner-Hyde has been hiding in small town teaching grade school. When her former partner finds her and asks her to come back and work with him. If she does not millions might die with the missle system that they had developed together being in the wrong hands.
Julia is afraid to go back to that life she ran from. But how can she live if millions are at risk if she does not? She also is worried about one of her students who's mother died and she believes that the father is abusing him.
Dr. Seth Holt has missed his old partner Julia since she just left 3 years ago without a goodbye. Thier missile system has been stolen and he is working on something that will defend against it but things are not as secure as it needs to be. He needs someone he trusts to lead the project. He has loved Julia for five years but has not let her know it because she is happily married to a cop. He needs her. It could be life or death if the work is taken and with the missile could be deadly to our country.
Julia has been hiding for 3 years ago because her ex-husband had abused her for years and three years ago she was almost killed by his hand. She does not want Seth to know and pity her. She finally tells him she was attacked just not by whom. Told him she was in coma and almost died 3 times.
Agent 12 working in security pretended he had not met her but actually helped her to be safe and how to hide.
Someone at the lab is trying to get the program they are working on. Setting up Julia and Seth as the ones behind the sabatoge. Mathew trusts both Seth and Julia. Seth and Julia almost trust each other but they have both been abused in the past and is hard to trust others.
Julia's ex-husband is out of prison after only 3 years. Even while in prison he would call and threaten her 4 to 5 times a week. She has had 14 unlisted phone numbers and her cell and new apartment are not even in her name. But Karl has had help finding her always.
Thier is a terrorist group inside the United States that has the missile and now wants the new technology they are developing against the use of it. Can turn the missile back to thier home. They want the power of having both and want to get back at the goverment. They are not afraid to use it.
I really enjoyed this novel. High suspense level. Like Vicki Hinze novels and plan to read more especially if they are as good as this one is.
I was given this ebook to read in exchange for honest review from Netgalley.

Seth believes millions of lives are at stake. He needs Julia's help to finish the current project and uncover the identity of a traitor in order to stop a potential catastrophe from happening...
When it comes to military romance, Vicki Hinze is a four-star-general. Her latest thriller ALL DUE RESPECT will bring the author more respect as one of the sub-genre's leading lights. The story line never slows down, as the plot seems to gain speed with every paragraph. The lead couple is a warm, intelligent duo who makes the tale plausible. With novels like this one, ACTS OF HONOR, DUPLICITY, and SHADES OF GRAY that blend a military thriller with a romance, Ms. Hinze has become a member of the sub-genre's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Hit for Hinze 12 Jan. 2001
By Vicki Patterson - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Once again Vicki Hinze hits the mark as a master of the contempary miliary romance. ALL DUE RESPECT is set at a fictional Air Force Base in north Florida where testing on missle technology is in full swing. Seth Hold is one of the genius' who has developed a war missle and has asked his old friend Julia Warner-Hyde to help finish developing the system. Julia agrees to return to research from her teaching position, but carries with her the scars of her former marriage. Her ex-husband abused her and almost killed her and now that he is out of jail, he is stalking her. Also, one of her students, Jeff, is a child in need of love and understanding and she hates to loose him. Seth volunteers to help look after the child and protect him from his abusive father. At the lab, the worse happens. The technology they are working on has been duplicated and stolen. The pressure from the CIA is enormous and at the same time the pressure from Julia's ex-husband and Jeff is getting more than Julia can handle. The more Seth help in each situation, the closer they become until finally they confess their feelings toward each other. What a story! The twists and turns are fascinating as Vicki Hinze takes you through the world of intrigue. She always seems to stay a little ahead of the game so you never just exactly see what is coming to make a riveting story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing Romantic Thriller 3 Feb. 2001
By Sue Weinert - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is the first book by Ms. Hinze I have read and I was very impressed. Julia and Seth are great people with very human problems and pasts. They struggle to heal themselves from abusive pasts and to save the country from a cult whose leader will stop at nothing to gain supremacy over the US government. I was expecially impressed with the growth and healing of Julia. She is a smart woman who still must struggle with the nightmare of an abusive marriage. She reaches deep into herself to find the courage and strength to face her abuser and to trust enough to love again. The relationship between Seth and the boy Jeff is touching. Seth relives his own abuse as a child as he helps Jeff escape torment from a father who never wanted him. This is a fast-paced thriller, very nicely written, and I will definitely be reading other books by this author.
