All the important actors are still the same, but the first special looks like a bad
clone of the original series if you watched series 3 before.
Obviously they had to recreate the set using different furniture, so everything
looks somehow wrong. The also changed the illumination - for the first
time you get the impression that there is sunny daylight in the surgery.
The role for young Jim was written badly - he seemed like the most annoying
child in the world.
Both specials feel like stretched TV episodes, missing any added value
you might expect from a 90 minute "movie". They tried to put in extra content - like
James' trouble of realigning with the life as a vet and a father - but don't
take the time to really do it.
