Confusing 6 July 2002
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I ususally love novels by Anne Fine, however, I COULD NOT get into this one at all! I found the story confusing, not really understanding whether things that were happening were reality or whether they were in the imagination of Colin, the downtrodden council worker. All the way through the story, when people were treating Colin like dirt (especially his old, ungrateful, whingeing mother) I wanted to shake him and make him tell them all to go to hell! I found myself skimming over the pages, just to find out if there was any point to this story and whether Colin would have justice in the end. The answer is a very fuzzy "No" and "Yes", in that order, but I wish I hadn't really wasted my time reading this book, as I felt no sense of satisfaction upon having finished it. I could forget its content tomorrow. Such a boring, confusing book.
