This book might cost twenty quid but it's got nearly 1000 pages and it weighs a ton! Chock full of classic 1950s adverts for all manner of items. I especially like the adverts for the computers of that era, boasting how they had a massive 24Kb of internal memory "expandable to 120Kb" ! All the kitchen equipment was used by women, all the cars were driven by men and all the kids had combed hair and rosy cheeks. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

Post WW2, pre-Vietnam, a golden age where the American Dream was still alive and well and living in the USA.

Drenched in nostalgy, this book is a glancing reference to a bygone era. There is not much text in there, but it is a treasure trove for any graphic artist or history/sociology buff delving into the myths of the 50's. You'll discover items and expressions you forgot (or hoped to forget) ever existed.
If you like big cars, big words and big colors, you'l love this book.

It's Taschen, of COURSE it's good quality, it's great! This is a massive book packed full of quality prints which allude to a different world, both in the design of the ads themselves and of course the consumer market for which these ads were intended. If you like retro design, get this book. An insightful and informative snapshot into a lost world...
