The first 2 times I played the album, I burst into tears on each occasion.
There is something in this music which I can't farthom why it does that to me. It is a unique experience which makes me feel more motivated to be alive.

This is awful. It sounds as if it has been designed by committee in a calculated bid to summon up images of China in the western mind, as imagined by a focus group. The entire CD strikes me as a calculated exercise in "targetted demographic appeal" or some such nonsense.

The very fact that the music critics of the mainstream press, -generally champions of the bland and middlebrow- have praised it should be warning enough. Kneejerk journalism such as: "Sa Dingding comes across as a Chinese Bjork or Kate Bush" (The Telegraph) is manifestly untrue, Sa Dingding comes across a lot more like the music for a shampoo advert and has NONE of those artists' originality or daring.

There is no spark of originality or spirit, and the wall to wall electronica is only rarely enlivened by the most superficial sprinkling of "appropriate" instruments. Kind of "Enya eats Prawn Crackers".

Do yourself a favour and avoid this. Spend your cash on something interesting and original instead, such as: Huong Thanh's Fragile Beauty or Dragonfly, or Nguyen Le's Tales from Vietnam or Walking on the Tiger's Tail
