Iced Earth's tenth album Dystopia, released in 2011, marked the beginning of a new chapter in the band's career with the entrance of former Into Eternity vocalist Stu Block. Their new album Plagues Of Babylon is volatile proof the accolades Iced Earth received for Dystopia weren't a case of beginner's luck. Then again, guitarist/founder Jon Schaffer has trusted his blood, sweat ... Read more in Amazon's Iced Earth Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest live album of all time 6 Mar 2003
Format:Audio CD
There have been some live giants in the world of metal, the likes of Iron maiden (Rock in Rio 2001 and Live after death), Metallica (Live S***: - Binge and Purge) and Slayer (decade of agression)
yet this offerring from Iced Earth outdoes them all. Drawing on all eras of the band this triple disc set features some stunning renditions of the material. 'Blessed are you' on the third disc sounds out of this world thanks to the huge intervention of this Greek crowd. 'Dante's Inferno' the majestic 16.5 minute epic is done in its entirety much to the sheer disbelief of the crowd, anything so complex, fast, slow, classicaln thrash and compelling has never been pulled off by anyone, even the live version of 'Rime of the ancient mariner' by Iron Maiden pales in comparison.
The pace of the set captivates the listener with all of the band's style being played, from heavy thrash 'Disciples of the lie', 'Violate' and 'Diary', to melodic ballads 'Last december', 'I died for you' and (the incredibly moving) 'Watching over me'
It is just awesome to hear a band play so well on an album, there are only a couple of gripes with this. 1) The first track from "The sufferring" trilogy from 'The dark saga' is missing which makes the performance feel unfinished. 2) The instrumental '1776' is not played live and only a snippet is heard as an epilogue, this ws a real shame as it is one of the best instrumentals of all-time. 3) They somehow missed off the recording of "Colours"! (Which totally wipes the floor with both the original and 'days of purgatory' versions, sadly only found on the 'melancholy EP'
These gripes however are not enough to warrant any Iced earth fan or curious new listener to ignore this recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Metal 18 April 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
None of that nu-metal here, just good old heavy metal. This has got to be one of the greatest albums of all time, by one of the most powerful metal bands of all time. All of the songs are amazing and there are over 3 hours of them, so you don't half get your money's worth for it. The album basically summarises Iced Earth from the first albums Iced Earth and Night of the Stormrider right up to Something Wicked This Way comes, it combines their most powerful thrash tracks like Disciples of the Lie with their ballads like I Died For You flawlessly. Picking a favourite from 31 amazing tracks is very hard but I personally think that Pure Evil tops the group. That is not to say that any of the others are even remotely bad, and it may just be that it is newer than the rest (I still don't own Night of the Stormrider). I think the inclusion of Dante's Inferno, a 16.5 minute long epic, and Iced Earth make the album a lot more complete, but my one problem with the album is that they did not include the song Burnt Offerings which is one of my favourites. So if you like metal, if you are a fan of Maiden in particular, BUY THIS ALBUM NOW, YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding live metal classic 27 May 2004
Format:Audio CD
I heard about Iced Earth when Tim Owens joined via Judas Priest and liked what i heard about this band. The Glorious Burden did not dissapoint,so when i discovered a triple live album was available i bought it and what an album ,i cannot think why this band are not massive, there songs are all metal classics that give Maiden,Priest and Metallica a serious run for their money.I can understand why fans are upset about the loss of their old singer as he has an amazing voice which fits the music perfectly.I would love to see them live and would hope Judas Priest take them out on tour this year [if they dare].

5.0 out of 5 stars What have I been missing !! 8 Feb 2003
Format:Audio CD
I am now in my mid thirties and have before today heard nothing much from Iced Earth, except on Priest and Maiden tribute albums; which isn't a bad thing !!
I read the earlier reviews about this band and this particular offering but I've been blinkered for so long now it's not often I try something new.
I am so chuffed that I bought this today. I've always said if a band can cut it live then they are worth spending money on.
This is a superb display of real heavy metal, as far away from this nu metal nonsense as you can get !!
Iced Earth for me cover the void between the mighty Anthrax and our very own Iron Maiden.
Excellent cutting thrash / speed metal guitar sound, crystal clear, good old fashioned riffing, cleverly written and put together. This is as heavy metal as you could hopefully get.
I will gladly part with my cash to hear more of this band !!
