4.0 out of 5 stars A musician above all........ 10 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
This must be one of Dud's last musical albums before his sad illness robbed him of his divine keyboard skills.Dud works his socks off in this concert, telling jokes between the music, whilst giving us treats of his sublime keyboard skills. As a musician, I have followed Dud's music since the sixties. There are precious few pianists that can play either jazz or concert music at the toss of a coin, the lines of musical snobbery sadly will always divide jazz from the rest of music. Here, Dud shows that musical fusion simply gives us enjoyment. Music can be shaped and bent to make us laugh and cry and Dud does just that.
His orchestral backing supports him nicely and transports us to the sixties and the first version of the film 'Bedazzled'. Cool music from a cool man, I could listen to Dud and the orchestra for hours.
Enjoy this CD for what it is, honest music from a funny man.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb 4 Mar 2007
By S J Buck TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
At the moment these are the last available recordings of Dudley Moore before illness ended his playing career. Recorded in 1992 at the Royal Albert Hall its an eclectic collection of Jazz, his Film Score music and comedy pieces.

The CD kicks off with a swinging version of "Love Walked In". Dudley displays his Jazz Piano skills to great effect with the trio. You can hear the influence of Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson in his playing on this track. Typically witty, Dudley then introduces the trio and explains that Peter Morgan the bass player is half Greek and half Welsh and is sometimes known as Zorba the Leek!! Three tracks from the film "Bedazzled" follow and these are typically romantic Moore compositions. Also supporting him on these tracks are the BBC Concert Orchestra.

As you'd expect the remaining tracks maintain a remarkably high standard demonstrating Moore's compositional skills as well as his reknowned comic ability which is ablely displayed between the musical pieces.

This recording was released in 2000, after Dudley had announced that he was suffering from PSP, and at least part of the proceeds from the sale of the disc will go towards research into this debilitating and deadly decease. Buy the disc you wont regret it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Musicianship 11 Jan 2008
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A much underrated musician Dudley Moore amply shows off his improvisational skills in his last set piece before the onslaught of his devastating illness. Unfortunately this collection is marred by the inclusion of lame dialogue by Dudley to the audience in between tracks, at times quite tiresome and to the point of cringeworthiness at his lack of comedic material. Oh well, you can at least programme the CD player to skip every alternate track.
