Alison Moore was born in Manchester in 1971. Her stories have been published in various magazines and anthologies including Best British Short Stories. She has been nominated for numerous prizes including the Man Booker Prize 2012 for her first novel, The Lighthouse, and the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award 2013 for her debut collection, The Pre-War House and Other Stories, whose title story won first prize in the novella category of The New Writer Prose and Poetry Prizes.
