From Amazon.co.uk

If you love concert DVDs that offer first-rate music, excellent sound and picture, a beautiful setting, and substantial bonus features, then Alison Krauss and Union Station Live is destined to become your new favourite. It's not just for bluegrass fans either, as proven by Krauss's crossover success on the smash soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? as well as her pop-orientated hits such as "Now That I've Found You". That song plus "The Lucky One", "When You Say Nothing at All", and others are the perfect showcase for Krauss's meltingly gorgeous voice, and admirers of the concert's two-CD set will also find out how funny she is in her between-songs banter. AKUS has never been all about Krauss, however, so there are also instrumental jams plus featured spots for other members, including Dan Tyminski on O Brother's rousing "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow".

The second DVD offers 50 minutes of interviews in which all five members plus drummer Larry Atamanuik discuss their influences, their instruments and their favourite songs. There's also backstage and road footage, baby pictures and more. Perhaps the only disappointment is that two songs from the CDs are not included in the concert: "Down to the River to Pray", which is heard over the end credits but not shown on stage, and "There Is a Reason". --David Horiuchi

I'm not a full on fan of bluegrass but I quite like Alison Krauss (primarily after hearing 'Maybe' on a Bob Harris Presents compilation) and so I decided to watch a cut down version of this DVD which recently aired on BBC4. After a few minutes I was hooked and when the show ended I surfed to find a supplier of the discs (for there are two).
Disc 1 is the gig lovingly presented: the original recording was in high resolution video so the transfer (whilst not up to that standard) is pretty darned sharp. The band are simply presented on a stage with no embellishment, heck they are even severely dressed down: Alison Krauss looking like she's taken time off her bar job, but it doesn't matter. What does matter is the performance. The instrumentation is astonishing and vital, the vocalisation stunning. Krauss is a soprano and really knows how to use her voice so combine that fact with the finest of fine bands and you're in for a thing of beauty. Now this is presented in Dolby Digital of course but to my surprise and delight there's also a DTS option which is as clear as the proverbial bell.
Disc 2 is a variety of interviews, promo videos and other useful things.
This really is a good package and a record of a quality gig. It's NTSC and region 0 by the way.

This really is a DVD of epic proportions. The first disc's concert is absolutely amazing to watch, and of course, listen to. It comprises of TWENTY-THREE of the band's songs, both as a group and from their solo albums.

Not only do you have the best of their previous albums, you have new songs such as 'We Hide & Seek' (Jerry's toe-tapping new instrumental). And yes, 'A Man Of Constant Sorrow' from the hit film 'O Brother Where Art Thou' is included! The intervals between songs will have you glued to the TV even firmer, since there are comments from (and stories about) Alison and the band.

At the end of the concert you will be in no doubt of the band's musical talent, since not only do they play the songs you know from the albums, but you get the atmosphere and variation of a live concert. The majority of the songs sound better played live.

On disc two, we have interviews with the band as a whole, as well as individual interviews with each member. Also on the disc is behind-the-scenes footage from the concert, and the full music video to 'New Favorite'.

Quite simply, this is one DVD you cannot be without.

Not only is Alison & Union Station so great, the length of the concert (almost 2 hrs) makes this such excellent value for money. The music in all moods is simply the best bluegrass and for me one of the best C & W dvd's ever released.
Buy it !!!!!!!

I know why one of the Amazon reviewers thought that Alison might be miming - she and Union Station are just that tight, just that musical, just that good, that it's hard to take in at first that such a perfect 'studio' sound could be produced on stage by six musicians. But when musicians are this good, it can be and they do. I saw them do this same set in England on tour, and their sheer professionalism is exceptional. If you don't enjoy this performance, you just don't like music. It will get to you.

This is a great DVD. The format is simple and the music is great. Disc 1 is a concert at the spectacular Louisville Palace, Louisville, Kentucky recorded in 2002. There is a wide selection of Alison's greatest hits. The whole group have a very relaxed laid back style and songs are interspersed with gentle and charming humour from Alison and the band. One slight criticism is it is sometimes difficult to hear the banter, either because of Alison's softly spoken voice or maybe a problem with the sound mix. However, the actual perfomances are as clear as a bell and the skill of all the musicians currently in Union Station really comes across. The Louisville audience also play their part with great gusto adding to the atmosphere. It's clear the Kentucky audience know and love great bluegrass music and Alison and Union Station deliver just that.
Disc 2 has some interviews with those involved and a music video.

I bought this item after reading some other reviews on this site...thank goodness I did!! This is QUALITY,QUALITY,QUALITY all the way through. I was not a particular Alison Krauss fan, but after watching this for the past couple of hours I certainly am now. If you want to watch a top notch singer backed by a top notch band this DVD pack(2 DVDs)is as good as it gets. Excellent photography and sound as well.
Definately recommended to buy...I can't wait for the next one!!!!

When I bought the CD, I hadn't realised that a DVD existed. So, when I discovered that, I had to have it. The DVD lacks one song on the CD, "There is a reason", and another, "When I go down to the river to pray", is played over the credits (but it wasn't recorded at Louisville anyway).

I can see why Shaun Coles in his three-star review thought it was mimed - it is just so superbly well done. AKUS is caught here on absolute top form, although one gets the impression that this band simply doesn't know any other form. Ms. Krauss sings like an angel and plays a devilishly mean fiddle, in addition to having a nice sense of humour (only small bits of her introduction of the band members is on the CD). The other band members are disgustingly talented. In addition, they all seem to have FUN on stage together, and it's infectious - watch Ms. Krauss grin in the marvellous instrumental "We hide and seek".

I found the second DVD, containing interviews, on-the-road shots, and the video of "New Favorite", not so interesting. No matter, it's that stunning musical performance on the first that matters
