Hi, Alison Buck here.
To date two of my novels have been published - Devoted Sisters and Abiding Evil - and I have recently contributed four short stories to an anthology of speculative fiction: [Re]Awakenings.
If you are one of the WONDERFUL people who have bought and, hopefully, read any of these, let me say a big thank you. I do hope you enjoyed the read.
As a reader myself, I enjoy strongly descriptive prose and well-rounded, believable protagonists. As a writer, I love the challenge of trying to communicate to a reader the images, characters and events that are in my imagination. Obviously, I can never know whether I fully succeed, but readers and reviewers have been kind enough to praise the richness of description and characterisation, and the dry humour in my work. That said, they also seem to enjoy the thrill of being unsettled, even frightened - with one recommending others not to read Abiding Evil alone at night!
It is immensely gratifying when readers write to let me know that they have enjoyed the books. It is the final stage in a process that is exciting and absorbing from the start: facing that first, blank screen. Once past that first hurdle the stories take off, characters begin to write themselves and time, in the real world at least, ceases to have any meaning. (At this point I think it might be politic to thank my long-suffering husband, son and daughter for all their support, encouragement and patience.) Finally, if writing is rewarding, there is little to compare with the satisfaction I feel holding a copy of my book in my hands for the first time.
How lucky am I? ;-)
If you would like to comment on my books, or follow progress on my future titles, please feel free to go to my blog, 'Pass the Buck.' Meanwhile thank you for reading, and goodbye.
