4.0 out of 5 stars "E-mail junkies - press your buttons now" 25 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Alisha's attic take a slightly quirky view of modern life in this wonderful album. It's easy to listen to, but with a edge. It IS quite 'girly' but, come on blokes, it's the 21st century now, so you don't need to hide it behind the AC/DC!
The production is great and there are some really cracking tracks on there. "Air we breathe" is a great way to end an album, the only problem being, it's followed by the slight "Adore U"
That aside, I would definitely recommend getting this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the genre, this is dead good. 19 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Normally the words 'kooky', 'sassy' and their ilk would make me run a mile before listening to a record. However, I was lucky enough to borrow this album before hearing any such description, and I can assure any open minded music fan that this is a cracking listen. All the tunes are great, the lyrics seem fresh and striking, the harmonies are gorgeous and the production smooth. Standout tracks include the singles Alisha Rules the World, I Am I Feel and Indestructible, as well as the punchy Intense and lilting Stone In My Shoe, but all the songs are excellent, and the album really works as a whole. In fact, someone who didn't know better might even say that this is the best female British album of the last decade. A little known classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Alishas Attic Alisha Rules the World 19 July 2004
Format:Audio CD
Alisha's Attic are a strange, yet very likeable band. They have the look of gothy indie-chicks, and yet they produce fantastically obscure pop gems. This is a superbly uncompromising pop album - capable of converting practically anyone to the Cult of Alisha.
Alisha Rules the World is jammed full of quirky pop songs, laden with jingly percussive interludes, well-timed harmonies and catchy choruses. "Irresistible U Are" opens the album with a sweet melody and even sweeter lyrics, before launching into the soaring grandeur that is "Intense". The real surprise on this album lies in the sixth track, "Stone in My Shoe" which shows the sisters are more than capable of crafting delicately melodic ballads as well as fabulously surreal pop ditties. However, the defiant single, "I am, I feel" and the storming "I Won't Miss You" shouldn't be overlooked either.
How Many Good Tracks? Eight, out of 13 (but the ones that are good are really, really good)
Best Track: A tie between the lush "Indestructible" and the anthemic ""I Won't Miss You".
Worst Track: "Personality Lines" is an unnecessary filler track which was probably a better idea in theory.
This album is a delight - falling somewhere between indie, pop and the psychedelic ramblings of two girls with too much time on their hands. With a little use of the skip button to pass by those irksome, but mercifully brief filler tracks, this album will be a mainstay in any indie-pop fan's CD player.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not interesting enough 1 Feb 2001
Format:Audio CD
Odd name. Alisha's Attic. Odd CD title. Alisha Rules The World. Odd Artwork. Little Pixie pops up all over the insert. Original? Yes. Classic? hmmm. Alisha's Attic are certainly not satisfied with sticking to the conventions of pop. The problem with the album is how blended the songs are. They seem to mush into one large pop tune that have no real impact. The exception is the truly gorgeous 'Stone in my Shoe.' "...But if I fall will their be another stone in my shoe, making it harder to come back to you..." truly enchanting lyrics. If you liked 'I am I feel,' and 'Indestructible,' then you'll probably have a slight warmth to this album. Don't expect to awake from a faint after listening to this album, it's nothing to get excited about, but then again nothing to really hate either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Open your mind to this wonderful album! 23 Mar 2005
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
One summer I fell for someone who I'll always remember fondly as she would sing and dance to this CD. Normally nothing takes us back in time like our sense of smell but on this occasion, it is my memory for a sound that is strongest. So, a few years later, I simply had to buy a copy.

This is a lovely collection of songs which run smoothly, one after another, with a beginning, a middle and an end. If there is only space for one CD in your car to play back several times in succession, make it this one.

Harmonies, rock numbers and ballads, this album is a diverse dreamscape of moods with sharp, intelligent, imaginative lyrics. In fact it captures the essence of everything that man loves about woman, or at least this man(!) For me, this is a personification of my favourite feminine traits in one album; allure, independence, (apparent) fragility, inner strength and bouncing girliness.

This album is strong. It is powerful. It is beautiful. It is a must. As they say here in Lancashire, "get it bought"!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, surreal, and beautiful... 10 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
As spicy and tongue-tingling as the left-over curry pictured on the cover, this album truly has an intoxicating effect on it's listeners!

Never manufactured or pretentious, just under-stated, witty, and refreshing in it's approach to indie rock tunes (White Room; Intense; I Won't Miss You) and sickly-sweet, sing-a-long love lullabies (Just the Way You Like It; Irresistible You Are; Indestructible).

This charming duo is offering you more than just the glass of cheap red wine in Shelley Poole's extended hand- you'll get a package of tongue-in-cheek, ultra-feminine quirky songs that will touch and entertain you for hours on end...

No qualms about it- you must own this album!
