Brilliant, 25 Jan 2007
This review is from: Aliens (Special Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
Quite simply one of the best films ever made.
Big dumb fun crackling along at a rollercoaster pace. Terrific performances all round, particularly from Bill Paxton, who wasn't on my radar before this movie.
As good as it gets - scary, tense, and then by turns moving and humorous. The director's cut neatly fills in some of the blanks, too. Can't tell you why, it'll spoil it!
The marines are great, neat caricatures that somehow still manage to leave a mark on you.
But this is all about Sigourney's best known and best loved character. Ripley's finest hour - and James Cameron's too - I don't care how many Oscars he got for Titanic.
My favourite movie. Ever.

shorter Aliens, 14 April 2006
The Alien series is my most favourite Sci fi saga, and Aliens is my most favourite movie in the series.
Still, it seems to me that the PSP version is shorter than both the teatrical one and the special edition. E.g. it doesn't show the scene in which automated cannons riddled some aliens in the corridors. This could be ascribed to the smaller capacity of the UMD, but aficionados like me may be dismayed.

Aliens Galore!, 14 July 2007
This review is from: Aliens (Special Edition) [DVD] (DVD)
I first saw this film when it was released in the cinema. I saw it during it's first week of release and hadn't really read much of the publicity about it. All I knew was that the first "Alien" movie had scared me half to death - and that was with only one Alien! We were now talking plural! ALIENS! As the cinema filled up, people were chatting and talking away, suddenly the lights dimmed and the film began. The feeling of dread and the awareness of there being lots of Aliens this time seemed to permeate the audience, and as the titles began, along with the creepy James Horner soundtrack, you could actually see everyone in the audience of this big London cinema physically shrinking down into their seats!
Yes it starts slowly, but when it does get going - wow. Hold on to your hats. James Cameron (the director) may be many things, but he is certainly a damn fine action director. He grabs hold of you and just won't let you go from there on. Some of the scenes in the darkened corridors with the bleeping movement sensors are almost too much to stand. The added 17 minutes of footage on these DVD's that were removed from the original cinema release add a lot to Ripley's character, and the scenes in the dark tunnels with the auto sentries will have you chewing your fist with suspense.
A fine fine film spoilt only by some of the extras on the bonus disc proving just how utterly humourless someone like Lance Henriksen is. Lancey-wancey seems to take himself just a tad too seriously. But acting like such a complete pr*tt makes him look stupid and made me laugh like a drain. Thanks Lance!
