From Amazon.co.uk

Video game meets movie in this wacky science-fiction action film. When aliens from space invade the attic of a rented lake house, a boring summer holiday takes a turn for the unreal for six kids. Conflict abounds in the extended Pearson family, which includes Nana (Dora Roberts), two nerdy adult brothers (Kevin Nealon and Andy Richter), and their six children. Teenage cousins Tom (Carter Jenkins), an ex-math nerd, and Jake (Austin Robert Butler), a rebellious teen with lots of attitude, clash like oil and water, and Bethany (Ashley Tisdale) and her devious boyfriend, Ricky (Robert Hoffman), don't make the situation any easier. Add in three younger siblings and it looks like it's going to be a long vacation. When four aliens crash on the roof of the house in search of a secret weapon and world domination, things begin to get interesting. Armed with mind-control technology, the aliens are able to manipulate humans with a device that's remarkably similar to a video game controller. Unfortunately for the aliens, the technology works only on adults. Suddenly, the warring cousins and siblings realize they must join forces and rely on one another to save their parents, Nana, and the rest of the world. What ensues is an action-packed battle in which the kids try to outsmart the aliens with everything from fireworks to a remote-controlled Barbie car and a paintball gun. When the kids get hold of the aliens' controllers, hilarity reins as they make Ricky and Nana do everything from slap themselves to fight as only an accomplished Kung-Fu Grandma can. The action is funny and the kids get fairly creative, but the movie is really just a farce that's full of silly humour, the occasional glimpse of heart, and a somewhat buried message that it's OK to be smart. Aliens in the Attic is kind of like watching someone else play a good video game; the plot is fairly entertaining and the action is fun, but the experience just isn't as stimulating as when you're the one behind the controller.--Tami Horiuchi, Amazon.com

Synopsis

A group of kids defend their Maine vacation home from knee-high alien invaders in this adventure comedy for the entire family. When Michigan native Bethany Pearson (Ashley Tisdale) arrives home after a secret outing with her boyfriend (Robert Hoffman), her father, Stuart (Kevin Nealon), decides that it's high time for a family vacation. Packing up the car with wife Hannah (Ashley Boettcher), teenage son Tom (Carter Jenkins), and big sister Bethany in tow, Stuart invites the extended family to join them at the vacation home for some much-needed rest and sets his sights on Maine. Much to Tom's dismay, Bethany's stuck-up boyfriend, Ricky (Hoffman), even manages to wrangle an overnight visit. Shortly after the Pearsons arrive at their sprawling summer home, however, things start to get strange. As dark clouds start to swirl overhead, four glowing objects blast through the sky on a collision course with the Pearsons' roof. But these aren't your typical meteors, because inside dwells tough-talking alien commander Skip, muscle-bound weapons specialist Tazer, lethal female Razor, and geeky four-armed techie Sparks. Before long, the aliens have taken Ricky over via a powerful mind-control device, and announced their intentions to claim Earth for the 'Zirkonians'. While the adults are completely oblivious to the extraterrestrial threat, the kids fight to save the planet with a little help from Sparks, the alien tech-specialist and one non-hostile invader. John Schultz directs a script penned by scribe Mark Burton (Wallace and Gromit).

4.0 out of 5 stars Punches it's own weight 13 Jan 2010

No, the repuations of Ingmar Bergman or Orson Welles are not placed in any danger by this Hollywood 'pack em and rack em' movie, but on it's own terms, it's pretty good.

I took my two little ones to see it and they couldn't have been happier. And for me there were shades of The Goonies, E.T.and all those great 80s 'Kids Adventure' films. All the necessary ingredients are there - big old house, warring siblings, cute little girl who never really get's in any danger because she's so loveavble, the bully character who gets his comeuppance, and of course, the parents who have no idea what is going on. It's a wet Saturday afternoon type of picture.

I wouldn't object to a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Family Movie 23 Aug 2009
By tallpete33 TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Aliens in the Attic is definitely a great summer holiday film that myself and my daughter (aged 13) both enjoyed even if we were among the older in the audience! It is quite a simple affair; the Pearson families rent a large house for a summer of fishing and barbecues, not knowing that it was built on top some alien hardware many years ago. Four diminutive aliens land on the first night of their holiday meaning to activate it (for world domination of course) and the fun begins.

Firing their mind control dart into the neck of the Bethany's (Ashley Tisdale from High School Musical) sleazy boyfriend Rick, the knee-high invaders start their plan to invade earth, not counting on the kids who led by the slightly geeky Tom fight back with their toys, determination and general resourcefulness. The plot descends into general mayhem with Grandma (Marie from Everyone Loves Raymond) also being taken over but once the techno twins Art and Lee get hold of her controller, their Nintendo skills find a use and her kung fu fight with Rick is hilarious, funnier than it sounds believe me.

This is all good, if very silly, fun. The kids play their roles well, especially the charming 7 year old Hannah who befriends the four-armed alien Sparks (all very Drew Barrymore and ET),the invader with a conscience. Rick being controlled to run around, slap himself and say what he is told is brilliant and always raised a laugh too. If you liked The Spiderwick Chronicles, you'll love this although it's a bit more slapstick and probably more suitable for the younger audience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kids Movie 13 Sep 2009
By L. Davidson VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Thumbs up for this entertaining children's movie. It has a great set of characters in it who all gel well on screen and there were some very funny scenes as well, mostly involving the annoying alpha male boyfriend and the old granny who both end up getting mind controlled with bizarre and humourous consequences. The plot is simple enough - small, ugly aliens land in a house being rented for the summer by an extended family of adults, teenagers plus the aforementioned old granny. With plans for world domination on their minds they go to war with the teenagers unbeknown to the adults. Can the resourceful kids drive the aliens back to where they belong ? This film is good family entertainment and much better than I expected it to be.
