5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful look at Church life, our lives and God, 20 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Everyone who goes to Church will recognise something in St Wiflreds, but I think more than that, they will recognise something in themselves in at least one or more of the characters here, and perhaps discover something new; as the characters do - through the efforts and simple presence of the 'Alien'. Adrians mix of humour, truths emotions (just about all of them), and those characteristic little messages, carry the story to a wonderful, (possibly) unexpected and moving ending. Recommended especially if you suffer from a domineering organist, a hidden anger about God, or indeed, if you are the least most important person in the Church of England.

5.0 out of 5 stars unforgettably real and honest, 29 Jul 2009
By K. Lilley (Cork, Ireland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of those books that thaws your heart - hugely recommended for anyone that is going through the motions of attending church, but has got out of the habit of really connecting with other people. A tale that made me laugh out loud some pages, and swallow hard over others, as a bunch of fairly dissimilar church-goers gradually start to trust each other with the truth of their own lives, gently drawn out by the child-like innocence of an alien visitor. Real encouragement to be honest with God, and maybe with one or two others...
