3.0 out of 5 stars Nice display piece, but little else. 29 Jan 2008

The other figure in this line was the Alien Warrior, which is a superb figure with lots of detail, articulation and plenty of play value. This Hybrid however, seems to be lacking in most of these severely, and hardly compares to the Warrior at all.

To begin with, its posability and articulation points are absolutely minimal. There are ball-jointed shoulders (which are very limited in movement), swivel biceps (which doesn't really make any difference and just provides an ugly line in the sculpt), swivel wrists, hips and thighs (same as the biceps). The head is on a ball joint, the tail is bendable and a nice touch is the hinged jaws, which allows them to open a bit. This may seem like a lot, but you'll see that the figure was clearly supposed to only be positioned in one way, so most of these articulariotn points are only designed to help you achieve said pose after taking it out of the box. The torso and waist are sculpted at an angle as well, so even the rest of the figure was much more poseable, it would still only really fit one pose. Given all this, there's not much you can do with the hybrid other than display it and look at it; which works for a lot of people. There is definitely low play value.

This brings me to my next point. If all you want to do is look at it, this is a perfect figure . It is incredibly detailed from head to toe, and looks stunning. The only faults you'll notice off the bat are the cuts in the model for the swiveling biceps and thighs, but these aren't even that much of a problem. Close observation will reveal dozens of small details that make the figure quite superb visually (such as its transparent head-dome, a small inner-mouth lurking behind the jaws, and the individual dreadlocks lining its head).

I wanted an Alien statue and thought that this would be ok, but it is a movable toy and it's leg keeps falling off but very like the creature in the film a bit pricey but like it, guests look at me very strange when they see it on the top of my tv!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars good detail, but inferior poseablility and pictures are misleading 28 April 2008

This model is inferior to the other Alien toy from 'Requium'. That toy has great pose-ability, whereas this Hybrid Alien is locked into a position where it is turning to its right, which looks kind of silly to me, and is annoying considering that all of my other Alien toys allow for a great variety of poses. You CAN move its arms at the shoulder, its tail, and the head a little bit.

Second, in the promotional pictures the toy, even the ones on the toy's packaging, it is shown with its mandible teeth open in a menacing position, but in the actual toy they are closed, and makes the creature look much more tame. I call this false advertising.

Still, it is a good addition to my Aliens collection, given that it is a cool new design, and the toy has a good amount of detail, with a great paint-job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly high detail for the price! 22 April 2009

This AVP Hybrid is an amazing value. It is huge and highly detailed for its price range.

I'm a serious collector of Star Wars and Alien items and I have not seen a larger (9 inches tall) more scary, more realistic "action figure" in the $12-$16 price range.

Sure, I have a larger, more detailed Hybrid from Sideshow Collectibles but I paid $[...] for it!
