First off I am a big Alien fan, I enjoyed playing Alien Breed on the Amiga and it is not since Alien Isolation that I have felt the same type of tension, this game will definitely not suit everyone, it is more for the fans of the original film. This can be seen in the graphics which are very good but more so they evoke a sense of the original movie like no other game before. I had a PS3 until a few months ago so the jump from PS3 to PS4 makes for a beautiful game, yes it does have some stuttering in the cut scenes and the game does occasionally pause when moving to a new section but it is nothing game breaking.

The game really instils a great sense of futility and helplessness, and this is the games strength and it's weakness, so many games concentrate on using guns and killing, whereas Isolation makes you have to consider your actions more instead of running in gun ho. A lot of gamers will not like this but those who do persevere will greatly enjoy the game. In conclusion, this is a game for those who love the original film, it is very hard and you will die many times, it is a depressing and very high tension game, just like the original movie. I am really happy that I bought this game, on a side note I bought the steel book edition, it is very nicely made and makes for nice viewing on the shelf.

***NO SPOILERS***

I've been a fan of the 'Alien series' since I first saw 'Aliens' in the early 90's. For some strange reason the games have never really lived up to the movies, there's been the odd one here or there every 5 years or so that turned out to be a good game but for the most part games based on the Alien series suck. In fact, apart from 'Aliens: Infestation' (2011) the last good Aliens game was 2001's 'Aliens vs Predator 2'

I went into this game with no expectations and came out absolutely blown away. This is one of the best games I've played this year and one of the best Alien games made. To truly appreciate the game you have to watch the movie first, to see the attention to detail that The Creative Assembly have put into this game will really become apparent to fans of the series.

They've went to Ron Cobb's original designs and created all the environments from the group up in the exact same style as the 1979 movie. The set designs are very claustrophobic and perfectly encapsulates the 70's analogue technology with computers using simple monochrome displays and the abundance of magnetic media being sprawled around the devastated space station. The Alien is true to Giger's original design and is terrifying, using all the current technology available they've created a truly terrifying beast with an AI that actively seeks you out without resorting to cheating.

Just finished the game and I must say I am stunned - this finally is an Alien game worth its name. If you are into stealth games and at least like the first two films you definitely should give this a try. Yes, it is long - I played over 20 hours. Yes, it is hard - I literally died a thousand times.
It is a stealth game. Hide and survive. Get caught - you die.
The visuals are inspired by the first film and everything looks totally retro - although later in the game you come to visit areas that are a clear nod towards the second film.
The Alien itself is very well done in this game. Dangerous and deadly probably lurking nearby, you can never be sure if you are safe for the moment or if death is just a step away.
The only cons I found are some frustrating parts in the game where you die quite often before you can figure out how to get to the next save station but that's three or four times in the whole game so not a big deal. Facial animations are a bit lame. And once you're done with the game that's it. There are some additional game modes but nothing that made me come back after the end credits rolled.
So, if you are into stealth/horror games give this a try - you will not be disappointed!

After having purchased this I decided to watch the first two Alien films with my girlfriend. Having not seen the films before she was pleasantly surprised! This was also a great way to enrich the whole experience of playing Alien Isolation. Ridley Scott's original 'Alien' film instills a sense of dread not only with the marauding Alien who lurks within the shadows but with the great use of 'mis en scene' within the Nostromo; The mining ship itself with it's darkened corridors and steaming metal structure adds to the foreboding atmosphere.
The designers of Alien Isolation have successfully re-created many elements from the original film both graphically and also with the use of sound effects and music. Graphically the attention to detail is exceptional. One of the main tools you will use throughout the game is the motion sensor which tracks the movement of anything hostile. When this is combined with the horrifying music that accompanies the Alien the psychological effect of impending doom is increased. My only major gripe is the distance between save points this leads to frustration as you will have to go over the same ground many times over. If you are a fan of the original film and looking for a game that uses tactics and stealth then you will enjoy this.
