1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid like the plague! 24 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I only bought this as it was cheap and the trailer seemed OK. But this is one of the most boring films I've ever seen! What a load of rubbish! Boring, boring, boring, zzzzzzzzzzz. I'd rather watch paint dry!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very good 18 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
actors not very convincing - lots of carrying on about idiotic details, which I am sure no one would pay attention to when the world as you know it is ending. Very formulaic and an ending which is not really an ending - as if the people in charge had suddenly realised that they had to finish up ...
Very disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Love the aliens....Hate the crappy script and acting !!! 15 Jan 2013
By Andre Villemaire - Published on
Having survived the classic science fiction of the 50's and 60's im used to see
crappy effects...but at least they really worked hard at the acting to make these
shoe string movies believable.

But today ..2013...we get this movie... Good enough effects...loved the tripod
invaders...but the script and associated acting made me sick!!!
Its that kind of movie,,,where you have young actresses talking to their phone
...shaky camerawork...caused your suppose to feel like your there, continuous flow
of the swear words...very bad script....hey grab guns...lets survive type of movie.
Its been done many time before...and they all suck.
Again...Hand held cameras...actresses talking to the camera..lots of stupid
people continuously swearing...and lots of other useless garbage...

So why did i buy it....
1. It was in the bargain bin....hey sometimes you get winners..
2. I love aliens...and i really like these ones also.
3. The special effects (ray guns..exploding individuals etc...were good enough)
4. It was'nt a Asylum Studio was Phase v1 ....not as crappy movies..

So i can only recommend to have a view if you can hack it....for the aliens.

Gimme me Battle Los Angeles anytime, instead of this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Alien Dawn.... 14 May 2013
By blackaciddevil - Published on
Giant alien machines are enslaving humanity and feeding off of them. Its up to the last few survivors to come together and make a stand against them and, ultimately, their extinction.

Much like The Asylum, Phase 4 Films makes low-budget films. And, like The Asylum, they make mockbusters of big budget films as well(in this case, War of the Worlds). However, they aren't quite as bold with stating so in their titles. In turn, that takes alot of heat off them for doing so. People give their films a chance which is good because, much like The Asylum, they do make good films when they want to. Another reviewer here got it right when they said that Alien Dawn is not a big budget Sci-Fi but it's better than that Sy-Fy channel nonsense. I'm inclined to agree. It was entertaining for what it was.

However, I don't really suppose that I'd watch this movie more than once. Not that the acting or the plot of the film was bad or anything. It was okay. It just seemed rather generic for a science-fiction film. Nothing greatly inspiring or fun to make me want to watch it over again, you know?

My only gripe with the film is, like others here have stated, is the constant flashing on screen when battling is taking place. It was rather annoying.

As I stated before, for what Alien Dawn is trying to do, it does so decently. It was an entertaining for the 85 minutes that it lasted...and, in my books, that makes this film okay with me. Give it a look.

This is a very cheaply made Phase4 studio film. Bad acting, bad script, 60s effects. 1 of 3 Phase4 videos I made the mistake of purchasing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised me 29 Oct 2012
By SCi-Fi Freeeek! - Published on
Very entertaining take on War of the Worlds. I find some of the reviewers here strangely childish in their reviews. It is sort or part reality documentary, part action film. the characters made me laugh in a couple of places, especially the ways the two brothers interacted. Not a big budget Sci-Fi but better than the Sci-Fi channel nonsense. Had it been an Asylum film, i would never have watched it in the first place.
