So, 'Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ has been released on DVD. That's the good news. The bad news is that the print is so bad, I’ve got a ten-year old video taped from TV with a faulty aerial in better shape! So, only get this if you are desperate (it is cheap) and even then think twice and do without it.

The company concerned is Platinum Disc Corporation of La Crosse, WI, USA, and may God have mercy on them for having the nerve to put this out for public consumption. In fact, I can scarely believe this release is legal.

It's pan and scan, unsurprisingly, and appears to be region free. Pity the whole thing wasn't! It's such a shame that it's not a decent transfer as it's an excellent film. In fact, I was quite surprised to find so much music not on the original Warner Brothers LP. This is definitely a candidate for some enterprising company or person to re-record with all the songs and musical bridges intact.

The film itself is very enjoyable with good performances from the entire cast, but special mention for Fiona Fullerton in the title role. She is magnificent, especially considering her limited experience at that stage of her career. One can only hope this film gets a legal release in the UK before too long. In the meantime, don't buy this version - it's a waste of money, even at this price!

Although made around 1972, what this film lacks in special effects, makes up with it's great performances by an all star cast of the 70's. Watch out for a young Dennis Waterman painting roses red.In this film there are some great cameos from Peter Sellers, Dudley Moore and Spike Milligan. The scenes when Fiona Fullerton shrink and Grow are priceless and ground breaking for the time. Special effects make-up was quite good too. This feature also has some eye catching visuals and a nice musical score.Would be nice to see this piece of archive restored to it's former glory.Shot in widescreen 2.35:1 ratio.Although the film effects look primitive compared to now, young kids will love it.Strictly for Alice in Wonderland fans and nostalgia addicts. Simply a piece of wonderment from a bigone era!

This is probably the film version that comes closest to Lewis Carroll's original ideas. (It even uses Carroll's original title). Superbly well cast, it remains faithful both to the story line and the songs found in the book. Fiona Fullerton is perhaps a little too grown up for the title role, but is charmingly innocent nevertheless. A star cast provides good support, amid colourful sets and, for the time, good special effects. This is a film for all ages to enjoy time and time again.

The best version of this clever story
I can't answer for the DVD as I haven't bought it yet though I will. I'm not a particular Alice fan so "ordinary" versions of the story aren't likely to grab me. Read more

One of the better adaptations
This early 70s musical adaptation has one of John Barry's best scores. The songs are great. This stays very faithful to the tone of the book and has many wonderful performances... Read more

It is a classic tale, which I enjoy, but I think the 1999 version with Miranda
