Product Description

Synopsis

Alice in Genderland tells the story of Dr. Richard Novic, Harvard-educated psychiatrist and crossdresser. No memoir like it has ever been published. Most of the time, he is a man at the office or a husband and father at home. But one evening a week, she is a woman about town, shopping, dining, dancing, and involved with a man for over four years. And both wife and boyfriend know about each other. Although he now leads a richly expressive life, Dr. Novic suffered since childhood with a secret, a desire he was in no way equipped to handle, but one that eventually burst through his denial, a few months before his wedding date. Just once, he felt, while he still could, he had to know what it felt like to be a woman. Like Alice in Wonderland, his curiosity led him to fall headlong down a rabbit hole, through desperate straits, mind-opening surprises, heart-rending changes, and boundless love. By the time he was back on his feet, he was a different person, living a lifestyle he hadn't known existed. Anyone who has struggled to figure out who they are and how they want to live will see themselves in this powerful life story.<center>Praise for Alice in Genderland "Few know the transgender scene like GIRL TALK magazine's Alice Novic.

This exciting new memoir by her male alter ego takes us along with him and the people he loves, as he encounters and explores each twist and turn around him and within him. As much Lewis and Clark as it is Lewis Carroll, Alice in Genderland blazes a new trail in the world of crossdressing." --Linda Jensen, contributing writer, Transgender Forum "Alice bravely explores the limits of gender, sexuality, and relationships--a sexy, poignant, and at times hilarious memoir of transgenderism." --Vernon A. Rosario, M.D., author of The Erotic Imagination, clinical faculty, UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute "Alice in Genderland is a fascinating story, well worth reading." --Vern L. Bullough, Ph.D., author of Crossdressing, Sex, and Gender, past president of the Society of the Scientific Study of Sex

5.0 out of 5 stars a thinking t,girls book, 17 April 2006
By R. Kent (london england) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When i saw this book advertised on Amazon, having no previous knowledge of the author,i thought it would be the usual collection of anecdotes, photos ,etc of a T,vs relationship to her own world.
How wrong can you be!This book grips from start to finish, and is a forthright and candid veiw of a lifestyle that many of us desire but few can achieve. As a tv myself i found much in common with Alice ,particulary in finding an understanding wife, who shares and participates in what can be selfish lifepath.
Alice holds nothing back, and i mean nothing,in describing her experiences as she discovers herself, leading to her fulfilling life today.Though it is an exciting ride,AIG is a book to be taken seriously, and isnt aimed at the voyuer market,so if you are looking for tittilation look elsewhere.
I cannot praise this book highly enough, and can only describe it as a"must have".I eagerly await the next book from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last something real on crossdressing, 12 April 2006
By A Customer
I've just read this book and it was a relevation. I have been cross dressing furtively for more than thirty years. I can't claim I didn't know about the transgender scene but this was the first time I felt the issues of male sexuality, femininity and what to do about all these supressed feelings were addressed frankly and without shame. It's a remarkable personal story, well told, frankly, explicitly and with humour. Thank you Alice and your amazing partner, Melissa. Forget the dry theoretical texts, for anyone who crossdresses or wants to have an understanding of a partner who does, this is the book that really tells it like it is. Totally recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Getting' Alice in Genderland, 30 Mar 2006
By Lee Shore (Los Angeles, California USA) - See all my reviews
At the very least this book resonates with the kind of home truths every T-girl will recognize and affirm, but Alice in Genderland is more than a primer for novices or a fascinating memoir from an exotic subculture, it articulates some
very big ideas for world at large to digest. Transvestism is the last lifestyle subculture to be widely and egregiously misunderstood by outsiders, even those educated in disciplines that should know better.
While affirming, even celebrating our cousinhood with the gay and lesbian communities, acknowledging the enormous debt owed to the gaypride movement, AIG insists on a separate and unique identity for
TV/CDs, neither gay nor straight, and this is something the world not involved in 'the life' does not always'get'. How is it possible that Alice should do these kinds of things and not identify as gay? By
reading the book you understand how this is possible, and the fun part is that this honest, courageous and thoroughgoing deconstruction of transvestism has the propulsive readability of a detective novel!
Do not expect answers to the why of crossdressing, although Alice hazards some guesses about herself, the 'why' remains a mystery, a mere puzzle but also a 'Mystery' in the ancient transcendent sense of that word.
Reviewers in America have encouraged Alice to produce a second volume, someone even suggested a movie. I don't know how Alice Novic's sensibility will manifest itself again, but the fact is that she is a star and that her kind of personal and professional candlepower will not stay hidden under a bushel indefinitely. Cheers Alice! Keep up the good work.
