Da molti anni vive grazie all'infedeltà altrui, abituato a menzogne e sotterfugi ha vissuto situazioni di ogni tipo, anche le più bizzarre, ma mai si sarebbe immaginato che un giorno si sarebbe dovuto trovare un alibi per se stesso, dopo che l'amante di un suo cliente viene trovata morta e lui potrebbe essere l'unico a venire accusato. Questo darà vita ad un'ingarbugliata situazione in cui verranno coinvolte molte persone.

The Alibi feels like a premise in search of a plot: Steve Coogan's an ex-con man who's spotted a gap in the market and now provides alibis for cheating husbands and wives only to find himself in the frame for murder when one of his clients accidentally kills a woman. With a similar plot engine to Coogan's earlier The Parole Officer - man suspected of a crime he didn't commit has to use his clients to save him - it's the kind of US film Peter Sellers might have made during the early 70s lull in his career and which you'd expect to see on an airplane. But while it highlights Coogan's weaknesses as a conventional leading man and is very short on laughs without having a smart enough payoff to compensate, it's brisk and harmless enough. But James Brolin really should lay off the Peter Falk impersonations in future.
Entertainment's DVD has a decent 2.35:1 widescreen transfer but no extras other than a few trailers.

Film fine. It is the state it was delivered in that is the problem. It was advertised as new and came with the plastic foil missing. The case and DVD had obviously been handled and previously viewed. Not NEW as advertised. Disappointed.
