Product Description

The straight-talking star of the Staines Massive returns with a compilation of highlights and out-takes from 'Da Ali G Show'. Includes Ali in the USA, visiting NASA and the National Rifle Association, and interviews with Peter Stringfellow and Jarvis Cocker.

From Amazon.co.uk

By the time Ali G--the inspired creation of comedian Sacha Baron Cohen who debuted on the lame satirical series The 11 O'Clock Show--first got his own series, the gangsta rapper from Berkshire was already one of the biggest things on TV. Ali G--Aiiii is a compilation of the best bits from his own series, Da Ali G Show. Part chat show (Paul Daniels makes a memorably awful appearance; Gail Porter turns up and Ali dims the house lights and gets all soppy), and part saucy variety show (Ali's duet with Jarvis Cocker is fun, but no-where near as good as his improvised rap with Mohammed Al Fayed "from Arrods"), the material here is richer and more varied than his 11 O'Clock appearances, which more or less depended on his interviewees not knowing he was stitching them up. At various points, Ali reports from the States--the Staines rapper's spiritual home, you suspect--and the bemused reactions of the unsuspecting people he meets there makes for some of the video's funniest moments ("Has anyone ever been killed by a gun?" he asks someone from the National Rifle Association).

Ali G--Aiii also features Cohen's newest character Borat, a reporter from Kazakhstani television who is producing a guide to Britain for his viewers back home. Amazingly, Cohen ran into trouble with the Kazakhstani embassy in Britain over his portrait of the bumbling reporter with only the faintest grasp of English, but in fact it's the Brits he interviews who patronise Borat who come off a lot worse. (See, for example, the embarrassed silence which greets Borat's attempt at introductory small talk at a society dinner party: "My wife, she is dead"!) Like the rest of the show, there is a smart satiric edge to the comedy but it's also very, very funny. Ali introduces the compilation, keepin' it real with a promise that profits from the sale of the video will be channelled back into the Staines ghetto. --Edward Lawrenson

Ali's rise from a slot on the 11 o'clock show rapidly changed when he got his own show. The variety of the character of Ali G became more diverse. In stayed the interviews (of course) and joining them came musical duets (jarvis cocker, mohammed al fayed), focus groups (featuring hilarious debates on politics, animals etc) and the new character Borat.
Interviews are definately Ali's strong point and is emphasised by questions to Gail Porter such as 'me heard you got a HND.....have you been to the clinic to check it out?'. This preceedes Ali singing 'every breath you take' into Gail's eyes (unmissable comedy!).
The new bits are fantastic too, Ali shows concern for children getting into drugs "the most worrying thing about drugs is that it actually makes you like house music!" This follows his respect for animals and ideas for future politics ; "do you think in five years animals will be able to vote?"
The video is a fine collection of the Da Ali G show and has a few extra bits that werent shown on tv. All in all definately worth getting , especially if you like his previous video 'innit'!

This has bettered Ali's first video. He is even sharper here than before.
The only criticism is the dire studio sketches and studio interviews which the guests come on only to boost their already self-obsessed personalities(Mohamed Al Fayed, Paul Daniels, Gail Porter) ... all the directly scripted bits are awful.
Cohen becomes a comedy giant only when he is improvising - best shown with his hilarious 'Borat' character and Ali interviews (FBI, Wildlife and Drugs just couldn't have been pulled off any better).

I’ve been a fan of Ali G for years so it’s always good to have a chance to dip into a bit of modern nostalgia and sit back to enjoy some alternate comedy, yet for all that the show does right, this series really was the end for Ali as big budget seemed to spell the doom for a character that worked better with very little.

Whilst I had a lot of fun with the show, the cracks begin to tell in this series as the character changes to try and be something that I felt he wasn’t intended to be to try and liven up the aspects for the series. Yes you had a lot of fun with guests, you could see how the comedy worked but when you threw in “rapping” it felt like it took it way to far showing the huge cracks in Sasha’s ability.

All round, this one is more for the fans than for the general consumer and whilst there is something for everyone within, it is dated. A great shame but there are golden moments within.

If you liked his first video and like me thought that his first Channel 4 series was even better, then this video is a must buy for any Ali G fan. Packed with the best bits from the Ali G show including the Gail Porter Interview and the amazing rapping owner of Harrods - they call him Mohammed, Al Fayed - it really is a must buy. If you don't buy it he'll send Dave round!!! - Boyakasha!

Why when they release Ali on video do they insist on giving him such poorly scripted introductions? Apart from the staged sketches on the show (interviews with Paul Daniels etc) The video is very funny, Borat is especially a star of the show! The video concludes with outakes (not many) and an ALL NEW Ali G character! (make sure you let the video roll @ the end!

A bit dated now, but yes you love him or hate him. No comedy collection should be without some "ALI G but perhap's even he would agree that time moves on and the new stuff "Dictator" etc are hopefully a precursor for more of Sacha's undoubted comic genius.

Finally, Ali has returned. The freshest and undoubtably funniest program to hit our screens in the last year has brought out a classic. This is even better than his last video, and i would stake my house on this selling by the bucketload.

This has to be the funniest set of interviews ever made; famous guests like Gail Porter, Mihammed Al Fayed and even Paul Daniels all receive the Ali experience and let's face it it's hilarious! The intelligence of Sacha Cohen Baron in his portrayal of Ali G is quite frankly superb. This DVD is jam-packed with extras not seen in the video version and little touches which bring Ali G "in da house". But what makes this DVD "da beast" is not simply Ali G - we have Borat and Ali's latest creation: a German gay icon! If you've seen Ali G on TV and liked it get this DVD. If you haven't get this DVD. Even if you know everything about Ali G this will teach you new things. Even if you know nothing about Ali G this will teach you everything. Get this and get "Da phattest flavas from da Ali G show and unseen stuff dat dey tried to ban." - Aiii.
