Product Description

CD Description

Aromatic flavors of Spain and Islam commingle in Alhambra, soul-stirring music inspired by the fabulous palace that stands as a massive monument to the Moors of Africa and medieval invaders who ultimately brought their exotic richness to the southern plains of Iberia. The music of Jon Mark soars as high as the massive outer walls of the palacefortress Alhambra and sings as intricately as the elaborate mosaics that grace the inner walls. His melodies create the calm of the fountained courtyards and the clarity of the cloudless sky reflected in their pools. His impressions can be as delicate as a petal of a flower or as majestic as the Alhambra itself. On his synthesizer, Jon Mark brings alive the legends of the Alhambra, its walls echoing with the exotic sounds of Moorish Spain. The rhythms are undeniably Andalusian; the richness is undeniably Jon Mark - passionate, graceful and sweeping.

About the Artist

A top English session musician in the 60s, Jon Mark played with everyone from The Rolling Stones and Marianne Faithfull, to blues sensation John Mayall. As the decade came to a close, the vocalist, composer and guitarist began exploring the potential of jazz rock fusion as coleader of the highly influential Mark-Almond band. After the group dispersed in the late 70s, Mark moved to New Zealand.

Format: Audio CD
This is best listened to, in the dark, or with candles, incense and essentially, a free mind. Since this is the first review on 'Amazon' for Alhambra, then it means most people are still 'in the dark' about the magnificence of its contents. Having visited the Alhambra Palace (Granada, Spain) or not, you cannot fail to feel the energy and mystique of the place through the music. The haunting melodies and mesmerising drum sequences transport you to another era, where you feel you are floating on a balmy Spanish breeze or are striding through the ancient arches and cloisters of the Palace itself. Stirring, yet soothing. One of the best instrumental collections ever!

I haven't tired of listening to this cd and have played it often. Great soothing music which isn't intrusive if you have serious thinking to do.

This is really enjoyable 6 Feb. 2001
By Jeffrey W. Keimer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have owned this CD for over six years now and have listened to it many, many times. I enjoy it very much and do not tire of the selections. Every piece on the CD is listenable. It is good music to listen to while you relax and think about things. One Christmas I gave it as a gift to over 150 business clients. I have had many comments back from them about how much they too like the CD. I have purchased most of the other Jon Mark CDs and find that his Sunday in Autumn CD runs a close "second" in my opinion to the Alhambra CD.

MAN THIS IS GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!! 26 Sept. 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I've been a listener of electronic/new age foryears, beginning with Tangerine Dream to the latest from Enya. While my #1 favorites ,other than classical, are probably Pink Floyd and the Beatles with some old 70's Black Sabbath thrown in, these cd's are the perfect ones for relaxing and unwinding at the end of a tough day. the lush synthesizer melodies are very well done and lyrical; it never sounds like it was played by some non-musical fool, or some madman. It all feels real well and cozy, like your old flannel shirt.Buy it; you won't be disappointed.

Meditating on the Alhambra 15 Jan. 2006
By Richard Wirtz - Published on Amazon.com

There are a lot of albums out there that are billed as aids to meditation. This one isn't. But for the times when I'm trying to meditate, I keep a small selection of CDs. This is the one that helps me the most to direct my attention away from the stream of thoughts, to the music and my breath.

The Alhambra is a beautiful Moorish castle in the Spanish city of Granada.

Amazing! 30 Sept. 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I heard this cd a few years back during a massage session, and fell in love. I then started doing massage and wanted this for my collection but was unable to find it anywhere. I kept borrowing it from my (then) massage therapist, my chiropractor, etc, I've done so much work with this playing in the background. It's become a part of my work. I finally purchased the cd and have spent many hours enjoying it. It's an amazingly different cd. Very passionate and unique. I've never heard anything like it. I haven't experienced any other music by Jon Mark, but plan to in the future.
one to always keep in your collection 16 Oct. 2008
By Rosemary Chunco - Published on Amazon.com

I'm a massage therapist and have many CDs that I play in the background for relaxation purposes. This one is one that I always go back to. The whole CD tells a story through the music, all tied in together, which reminds me of Pink Floyd in a way. My clients will often ask "What's the CD?" - more so than other music. You will be transported to Spain, you'll think of red, orange, dusty buildings and a sad story. A great CD!
