I started reading this just as my son turned 7 which was perfect as Alfie turns into a werewolf on his 7th birthday. This prompted my son to enquire whether he'd be turning into a werewolf too! The story really captivated my son, it was well written with fun characters. I would highly recommend this story.

I have two sons of 10 and 8 and they have both loved all the Alfie books. We read them in Dutch, being British but living in the Netherlands, and my youngest was so excited to get a new alfie book just before Christmas. Paul van Loon is one of the most well-known Dutch children's writers around and knows how to write wonderful children's thrillers, which is basically what the alfie books are - we've found them not too scary but certainly a little bit creepy at times. The chapters are short, perfect for reading aloud or for children who want to read themselves, and nearly always end on a cliffhanger, making the books difficult to put down. I enjoyed reading them as much as the children - always a good sign!

My 7 year old daughter is reading the Alfie books with me and we both love them. The books are very well written and exciting to read with a new word for her vocabulary on most pages. Each chapter ends in a cliff-hanger that leaves my daughter pleading to stay up to read more of the story. More please!

Wonderful 6 Jan. 2013

My 7 year old son loves having the Alfie books read to him (and I enjoy them too).

This is the first of the series and probably my favourite. The cast of quirky characters is just right to appeal to a young boy and the action has enough mystery to be exciting without giving any nightmares.

It's great to read something not based on a TV show or that hasn't been made into a movie (yet!)
Excellent book. Alfie is an adorable white wolf 3 July 2014

Excellent book. Alfie is an adorable white wolf. My nephew, 8 years old, couldn't put this book down. Have to admit that I read it in one sitting as well. It's a gripping, but also funny, story. Highly recommended!
