this is a amazing bit of kit - while a bit pricy - well worth it for travelers , who stay in of the way places and need Wifi access. As a sailor - we often vist placs where there is no wifi - or so it seems untill you plug in your little ooster aerial - frightening to see how many unsecure wifi access points there are .
typically I find it adds "2 bars" to wifi signal.
I know that people dont like carrying extra kit - this is worth it if your heading off the beaten track

I bought this as its known for being one of the best usb wifi cards out there for penetration testing wireless networks. it uses the RLT8187 chipset which is supported by Backtrack and the Aircrack-NG suite.
Packet injection supported, this allows quick testing of wep encrypted networks and supports the use of an external aerial.

Excellent product simple to set-up and reception status went from 2 to 5 bars straight away and is very stable. The adpater is very neat and is about the size of a cigarette packet and sits behind my laptop. Would not hesitate to recommend the Alfa to anyone.

This device does not support Mac OS 10.6.7 and later versions. Which is what most Macs run on. Be aware!
