Product Description

Considered the father of British rhythm and blues, Alexis Korner's influence on a generation of musicians should never be underestimated. Robert Palmer, Eric Burden, Paul Jones and Eric Clapton are just a few of the names who can thank Korner for a leg-up on the musical ladder. This superb concert performance celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Marquee Club in London and recorded as part of the Live From London series, is testament to Korner's talents and pulling power as he is joined on stage by some famous friends including Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Ruby Turner to name but a few. Tracks include How Long Blues, Blue Monday, Hoochie Coochie Man and many more.! Born in Paris on 19th April 1928 Alexis Andrew Nicholas Korner spent the first 12 years of his life in Europe and Africa before arriving in London in 1940. He is quoted as saying From then on all I wanted to do was play the blues after listening to a Jimmy Yancey song during a German air raid. And so it was after the war he began to play both piano and guitar. He became acquainted with harmonica player Cyril Davies when he joined Chris Barber's Jazz Band in 1949 and they went on to form the London Blues and Barrelhouse Club in 1955, followed 2 years later in 1957 by their first record. In 1961, Korner and Davies formed Blues Incorporated, a group playing blues and R&B music that at various times in its life contain musicians such as Charlie Watts, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Long John Baldry, Graham Bond, Danny Thompson and Dick Heckstall-Smith. Amongst the younger fans and occasional performers with Blues Incorporated were Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Geoff Bradford, Rod Stewart, John Mayall and Jimmy Page...... (full notes on sleeve). Track Listing: 1. Timber 2. How Long Blues 3. Hoochie Coochie Man 4. Willie's Trick 5. Mean Fool 6. Heavy Hearted Blues 7. Lawdie Miss Clawdie 8. I'd Rater Go Blind 9.
