By DL Productions UK TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Alexei Sayle took a break in 1990, and came back to our TVs in 1991, with the 3rd and final series of Stuff, this series more crazy and funny than the past two, but did get rather repetitive. Some great moments include ants making technical equipment, the song about the British film scene, Alexei Sayle's Stuff: The Making Of and Monsieur Aubergine - which feels like a Benny Hill sketch with that Jasper Carrot bit where he had that silent character being spoken to by a voice over. I also loved the song about shutting up (relevant today) and the high-definition TVs (who'd have thought Alexei could see into the future?) - obviously better scan than 1080p!

The comedy is good, but at times it does get a bit too much, like the guy sitting there minding his own business while stripping music comes on, Angus Deyton's newsreader bits and the dolphins falling from the sky.

Fans of Dead Ringers will be happy to know Jan Ravens got a lot more parts in this series, but Arabella Wier seems to get less in this series. Of course Angus is the main actor.

This was for me the peak of Alexei Sayle's show, it was very funny, except for the odd repetitive moment and the awful intro scene where Alexei rides into a set in Mexico - I preferred the scene with the kids singing the theme tune, but the good thing about this programme as that it was different every time. Plus the fact it had amazing continuity; how Sayle could go from one thing to the next really did make this show gold for me.

It's a pity Alexei Sayle quit here, but I can see why too, he probably didn't want to spoil the broth, and to be honest 18 episodes in total was probably well enough (6 each series) and they were great.

I can recommend this - it's funny, and is the golden age of comedy for me, yes he's changed pace, technology has changed meaning better transitions from one joke to the next but it's all superb and part of his show. I think this has to go into the "comedies you watch before you die" category, alongside greats like Tommy Cooper, The Two Ronnies, Morcambe and Wise, Jethro, Jack Dee, Jasper Carrot and The Comedians.

Personally I found this third series slightly weaker than the previous two,

but nevertheless the Marshall/Renwick team are still experimenting with style & format

(heavily influenced by Python), creating some very interesting hits and a couple of misses on the way.

There are few sketch shows which have so many ideas crammed into one single show.

Similar to Eric Idle's brilliant "Rutland Weekend Television" (will this ever get a DVD release..?)

the programme seemed to be made solely for the pleasure of those who participated: Some very strange

and incomprehensible ideas and running jokes which can go on for a bit. So really surprising that "Stuff"

eventually got a full DVD release. Thanks for that & please bring out the "All New Alexei Sayle Show" next!

THis is some of the funniest material I have ever seen on television. It was run only once here where I live in the U.S., and I have been looking for it and the second series foryears. Alexei Sayles is a comic genius.
