Book Description

1 Sep 2014
Since 2003, Alexandre Gauthier has been the chef at La Grenouillere, a sixteenth-century farmhouse by the river Canche. There, he creates a highly personal cuisine, a snapshot of every season. Powerful, warm, sensuous, earthy yet delicate, it rests on the building blocks of a classic French cuisine that he has stripped of its formality and unnecessary intricacies. Gauthier has received the distinction of being named a Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government and is one of the leading figures of new European cooking. Through this book, he offers a hundred of his culinary creations to read, to cook, to consider. Superb photographs by Marie Pierre Morel showcase Gauthier's food and the beauty of the region, where La Grenouillere has become an important destination for foodlovers from all over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book 4 Sep 2014
Format:Hardcover
As per Jake's review below this is a wonderful and thoughtful book with inspiring ideas. It's beautifully presented and the exposed binding in the spine is part of this design aesthetic.

5.0 out of 5 stars do not be put off by previous 1 star review. 17 Sep 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Great book with some fantastic photography. Quite liked how the photos and history are followed by the recipe and small photo. Yet go and try any of the recipes but lots of nice ideas. As all the other reviews say the exposed spine is part of the design of the book. Do not be put off by the first review (one star) if they had bothered to read it they would have had a fine piece of work to show off on their coffee table.

As a professional chef I found this book both insightful & inspiring.
Beautiful photography & layout.
The bare spine mentioned in the last review is part of the design so please ignore the last review.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sack the bookbinder 28 Aug 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Would have loved to keep this book - bought two copies both a sad reflection of the bookbinder's art or lack of it in this case. Stitched spine fully on view - I couldn't put it on my bookcase it looked like something that I had bought at a flea market or that my children had ripped the cover off. Really disappointed - returned both to Amazon. Unbelievable at the price. What a waste
