A di Alessi products are the result of longstanding collaborations with the best international designers. The metaproject "Family Follows Fiction" began in 1991, and grew out of a desire to explore the emotional structure of objects even more profoundly then we had done in the past. We were interested in the most delicate, intimate, sensory human needs. The objects became ludic tools, telling little tales, giving captivating twists to everyday uses, suggesting a mediation with playfulness& becoming a bridge to the fantastical. For F.F.F. we drew upon Winnicott's words on 'Transitional Objects', as well as Franco Fornari's theory of 'Emotional Codes'. At the outset the idea was to reproduce the process of creation and animation of the object common to the world of childhood and of primitive cultures.

Mattia di Rosa has been working with Alessi since 1992 where the Carrara's young design has had the chance to focus on his fascination with errors in his charming, obsessive experimental approach.

I have about 6 of these jars, and then had to buy some more for my relatives and their kitchens.
They are glass, so easy to clean, and the lids fit really well and are easy to wash.
To grab them from the shelf you can 'hold them by the neck' so to speak and the lid won't come off.
The best feature for me is that their capacity is slightly over a kilo/ litre, so when I have some sugar left in the jar and buy another kilo bag, there is room for both.
The long 'pasta' size is great too.
Sometimes if you fill the jar to the top, Gianni the little man interferes with it, but that's the fun of it, seeing how far into it he's going to be buried :)
I'll keep buying more and more...

Humour in the kitchen, and why not? I have a collection of these jars and I love them. They keep whatever you store in them totally fresh - they don't taint. The lid is easy to take off and put on. They look lovely and cheerful. I like them when the container is nearly full and you get the idea that the wee man is hanging on for dear life! It's one of these jars that allegedly inspired Noel Gallagher of Oasis to write the song Champagne Supernova!
