Very witty. Side-splitting humor,
By A Customer
This review is from: Alec Baldwin Doesn`t Love Me: And Other Trials from My Queer Life (Paperback)
This is a collection of short stories on the trials of being gay and the humor associated with it. Ford is amazing at bringing clarity to what gay people would love to say to their staright friends, family and..... on gay life...you know, the sister who has a son who LOVES show tunes at 10 and she just doesn't get it!The "Marthaholic" (Martha Stewart addict) had me crying-I was laughing so hard and so did "I hate Shopping" where that author and a female friend almost kill each other trying to get a Fireman to notice one of them. Good "Commute/Lunch time" reading.

A collection of funny anecdotes and observations, but no story,
By Mac Fheorais (Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Alec Baldwin Doesn`t Love Me: And Other Trials from My Queer Life (Paperback)
This book is more of a collection of witty anecdotes and observations fitted somewhat erratically into chapters, than an actual novel. Its not that I didn't enjoy this book, I certainly did, but the books lacks any continuity between chapters, and is more of a diatribe of mutually exclusive ramblings than the expected interwoven tapestry of the author's life.
Having said that, the book is quite funny in places, and Mr. Ford has a singular wit when it comes to the individual aspects of his life, aspects that any gay man can easily relate to. In fact, I found the book to be an interesting diversion from what is the expected "norm" for a gay man, and I found myself agreeing with the author:- Like the author, I'm one of those "freaks" who happens to be gay and cannot stand musicals (There, I've said it!). This book is an ideal read for a rainy day on the sofa, or lazing in the park on a Sunday afternoon with your favourite coffee beverage: don't take it too seriously, don't expect too much, and enjoy the clever wit of Michael Thomas Ford.
