A higher literary standard worth comprehending 3 July 2001

In a world where the "soft bigotry" of lowered standards for reading, writing, and comprehension are bought and sold as tithes to the gods of reason and intelligence, Beitchman's work is a feast.

It is not an 'easy' read, but the effort required to absorb this marvelous work is an investment in the waning art of critical thinking.

If literary "cotton candy" is your preference, this book will be a disappointment.
