Product Description

From the Back Cover

Alchemy is best known as the age old science of turning base metal into gold. But it is much more: essentially, it is a path of self-knowledge, unique in the western tradition, with vital relevance for the modern world. The symbols of alchemy lie deep in the collective unconscious, in the world of dreams and imagery; the practices of alchemy are rooted in an understanding in the oneness of spirit and matter through which we celebrate our sexuality and spirituality.

Jay Ramsay takes us step-by-step through the stages of the alchemical process using a wide range of original exercises to create a memorable journey that challenges, inspires and transforms us at every stage. We too can be Kings and Queens; we too; once we leave are dross behind, are gold.

"Jay Ramsay a lucid, feeling intelligence and a poet's intuitive understanding of images to his study of the alchemical art of transformation which, as Jung insisted, is as important for the future of unconsciousness as for it's past."
LINDSAY CLARKE, author of 'The Chymical Wedding'

"Jay Ramsay has written a luminous and wise guide to the mysteries of soul, and to the images and text of alchemy which explore these mysteries."
ANNE BARING, co-author of 'The Myth of the Goddess'

Jay Ramsay is a poet and author of 20 books including 'Psychic Poetry, The White Poem and Kingdom of the Edge – New and Selected Poems'. He is the co-author of the 'Tao Te Ching, I Ching and Kuan Yin', also published by Thorsons. He is a teacher, lecturer, performer and therapist, and runs workshops world-wide.

About the Author

Jay Ramsay is a well established poet and workshop leader. He has published several volumes of poetry and is a co-author of The I Ching also published by Thorsons.

This excellent book gives a modern overview of Alchemy as it was meant to be: a spiritual practise for daily life. It is full of visualisation exercises and case histories, and takes you on a journey that will become a life-changing experience. Don't approach this lightly! The experience is not a comfortable one, but can almost guarantee personal growth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Important contribution 2 Dec 2009
By Christopher R. Travers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I purchased this book some time ago, but only recently read it. When I picked it up again, I figured that this book on alchemy, published by a mainstream press, was likely to be just new-age hogwash.

I was pleasantly surprised.

This book addresses alchemy as a spiritual system (the author compares it in the back briefly to tantra), based on meditation and sexuality. The book is packed with meditations and poetic explorations of the existing alchemical literature and paintings, and while it does not provide a firm intellectual foundation for the study of alchemy, I think it brings us one step closer to its essence.

I don't think this should be the only book one has on alchemy if one wants to study it, but it is a useful addition to any library addressing Renaissance spirituality, alchemy, hermetics, etc.
