4.0 out of 5 stars Good examples of UK adventure strips 7 Oct 2008
Format:Hardcover
This book reprints 1960s strips from IPC's Valiant and Smash! comics and gives a good flavour of those long-gone publications. Reproduction is as good as can be as it's taken from the comics not the original art. Stories are reprinted exactly as they appeared in the comics, as weekly episodes including titles and recap boxes. Personally I'm glad they did this instead of editing and omitting the logos but you might disagree.

Eric Bradbury draws Cursitor Doom and House of Dolmann, whilst Solano Lopez illustrates Kelly's Eye and Janus Stark. (Although one of the Janus Stark episodes is by Tom Kerr, uncredited.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic collection of British Comic Classic 1 Jan 2009
By K. Trebell TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
I received this for Christmas and have greatly enjoyed this little treasure trove of classics.

I wasn't born until a couple a few years after this work was first published, my first regular comic being 2000 AD in 77, so nostalgia wasn't a factor in that enjoymnt.

I found them an imaginative, beautifully drawn collection of stories and it's fascinating to see work that clearly influenced the writing of later British Comics stars.

Worth a buy for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Four 21 April 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Excellent reprints, in HB/dj format, of fantasy comic strips from Smash! and Valiant; two British comics of the 60s/70s. As these two titles amalgamated in the early 70s, the pairing is a good one. From Smash! we get Cursitor Doom and Janus Stark, from Valiant it's House of Dolmann and Kelly's Eye (clockwise from top left on the cover); in each case, it's the origination story of the character. My own personal favorite is Cursitor Doom, an occult investigator, drawn with macabre relish by Eric Bradbury. It would take a collector many years and a massive pile of comics to get all these stories, yet here they are, complete in one volume: spooky!
