Product Description

Put down that blockbuster novel, 500 pages long, and pick up instead this collection of short stories by a master of the storyteller’s art; for these seven tales will provide you with much more fun and enjoyment in half the time.

In these pages you will meet King Albert, who has a harem of 500 wives, and serious problems in keeping them all happy; then there’s a young lady whose Granny asks her to sleep with a ghost; Budgie Bill, who prefers a feathered bird to the charms of Miss Samantha Ramsbottom; and a host of other engaging characters.

This box of narrative delights will generate a variety of emotions: amusement, sadness, astonishment, dismay, and delightful irony; all different and yet all satisfying.

Readers who have enjoyed the work of such famed short-story practitioners as Saki, Somerset Maugham, and Roald Dahl, will find here much to entertain them.

Several of the stories in this collection have been published individually.

Michael Allen's collection of short stories, "King Albert's Words of Advice," is a truly entertaining display of talent by one of the UK's finest writers. The story of the book's namesake, King Albert, is a delightful introduction, leading to the humor of "Unblotting the Copybook" and a marvelous lesson in justice in "A Motto to Die By."

Allen is amazingly versatile, including in this collection a taste of science fiction, heartache, villainy and inequity. Each story is preceded by an introduction that is a unique style of this author.

In his afterword, Allen speaks of the "teller of tales," offered for a pint of beer and creating both illusion and emotions that are real--yet are gone when you look back. Once read, however, it's hard to ever forget Allen's.
