Product Description

Double bill of documentaries about the sculptor Alberto Giacometti. 'What is a Head?' (2000) looks at the richness of Giacometti's work, but pays special attention to the way he approached the human head. 'A Man Among Men: Alberto Giacometti' (1963) presents a different view of the sculptor, and allows him to shed light on his own work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wrong DVD 23 Feb 2011
Format:DVD
This DVD is quite good, but it not a reissue of the film by Peter Munger on Giacometti. The DVD that movieart-usa sent to me includes two one-hour films on Giacometti, one by Michel Van Zele and the other by Jean-Marie Drot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius 22 Sep 2009

Throw away all the blogs and reviews, including this one. Listen and look at this dvd throughout your life: it will change it. See the visions of Giacometti and step into another reality. This is a serious human being that makes most of the rest of the world seem like a herd of trolls. Truly inspiring!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Giacometti lives 8 April 2004
By CavemanPlato - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
To see the master alive and painting in his studio, walking the streets and meeting with friends is a rare privlege and worth the price of the ticket alone. This DVD has several documentaries explore the artist's work and life. The films include beautiful filmed sequences in the studio and marvelous details of the paintings. The post-war zeitgeist and atmosphere shines through many details and gives a context to Giacometti's research. Interviews with people who knew him show the man. Ecce Homo. Outstanding job, towers above most DVDs on artists.

4.0 out of 5 stars The splenour of A. Giacometti 11 Oct 2007
By zografos - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
Two ecxellent films with interviews of people that knew and posed for Alberto Giacometti. Also Giacometti himself. A great look into the works and ideas of the artist. Through the interviews one can sense the warmth of humane feelings the artist had in his interaction with people who happen to meet or pose for him. As one person says while meeting Giacometti: "at once you know he is offering you, he is granting you a moment, a short while, a moment which lets you be with him". The films manage to give you a chance to "meet" with Giacometti.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Insight into His Life 12 Nov 2010
By Stephen Pellerine - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Any Giacometti or arts enthusiast will appreciate this video. You can really sense his character and feel what he feels through this documentary. If you know of his work and want to learn about Alberto himself this is a great DVD, and if you are unfamiliar with his work watch this and you will immediately be interested in his work. What an honest and direct man.
