The Alba DVD65 is an excellent entry point into DVD combining good looks with a robust build quality and adequate feature set. While other models in the Alba current and previous ranges such as the DVD45, 55 and 59 may have attracted criticism for amongst other things, their dour looks, the DVD65 is an attractive slimline player, measuring just 360x251x48mm. The stylish silver finish is complemented by a slim black strip across the front fascia and a row of discreet control buttons that sit on the elegantly sloped leading top edge. The player is simple to set up with a clear detailed product manual and uncluttered on screen menu system. The remote control is a simple to use, functional design. No SCART lead is supplied with the player, so you will need to purchase one of these to connect the player to your TV. Other connections on the back of the player include composite video and audio sockets, for the unlikely event of no SCART connection being available on your TV, plus there is a co-axial digital audio output connection. This is used for connecting up to a Dolby Digital decoder and surround sound equipment (not included) for creating that full home cinema experience.DVD player

The playback quality of the Alba DVD65 is impressive. Image reproduction is good and there is support for a wide range of discs. The model is capable of playing discs from multiple regions without any modification and also supports playback of audio CDs, CD-Recordable discs and the Kodak PhotoCD format enabling you to playback digital images from your camera that have been stored on a CD. While not documented within the manual, we also found during testing that the DVD65 was capable of playing back DVD+R discs.
While the Alba DVD65 may not be packed with advanced features seen on some of the high end DVD players costing several hundred pounds, it has the looks of a far more expensive player and is simple to set up and use providing everything you need for great quality playback of all your DVD movies without costing a fortune.
