Alan Nolan was born and grew up in Southport, Lancashire and didn't realise that the earth isn't flat until he left the town at the age of 21. He worked in financial services until his retirement in 2006 and it was by chance that he took up writing. His first book, Ancient Feet, was based on the Coast to Coast Walk and resulted in his appearance in the Wainwright Walks: Coast to Coast series on BBC television, being interviewed by Julia Bradbury on a hillside in Cumbria. He was a little surprised when, at an author talk, the Chairman announced that Alan would be telling the audience about his involvement with Julia Bradbury - 'I promised to keep that a secret', Alan responded.
His second book, Like Father, Love Son, was published in February, 2011.
When sitting down to write a book, Alan says his main objective is to make readers laugh. 'If I can raise a chuckle, it's all been worthwhile.'
