Product Description

Synopsis

Alan Moore Knows the Score, as Pop Will Eat Itself sang. For over twenty years, from early work on 2000AD and Warrior to today, as the writer of From Hell and the America's Best Comics line, Moore has stretched the boundaries of the comics' medium. Moore is prolific and his work crosses genre boundaries like few others, ranging from farce and high comedy to the dark, grim work that epitomised the comics revolution of the late eighties. This book examines recurring themes and how Moore's work has evolved over the years. What's in it? As well as an introductory essay, this book is a comprehensive survey of Alan Moore's career. It also contains the only complete list of his works, including projects that never saw the light of day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moore Than You Can Possibly Imagine, 17 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Alan Moore (Pocket essentials: Comics) (Paperback)
This is a Pocket Essential. It's certainly essential but I wish it could have been designed for the reader with larger pockets. Hard to believe this is the first commerically available mainstream guide to the seminal work of Alan Moore. In Lance Parkin's parallel world, comic strips - graphic novels, call them what you will - are part of everyday English literature. They're on the shelves with the proper books and they tell compelling and complex stories about more than just muscular men in tights. Lance incisively demonstrates how Moore almost made that our world, through 'giant' works such as Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell - Moore and Eddie Campbell's meticulously detailed and mythic dissection of the 'Jack the Ripper' legend. Lance makes you want to go out and find every Moore title currently in print - and more. This book gives you an appetite for Moore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy Alan Moore Reference Book, 20 Feb 2002
By George A. Khoury - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Alan Moore (Pocket essentials: Comics) (Paperback)
Well written and a lot of fun! Features a nice intro about Moore; nice overviews of his work; and a pretty mean bibliography with details of the contents. Very surprised that this little book would be so informative. Not bad at all.
