Alan Fleet has spent over thirty years travelling internationally as a freelance marine geophysicist in the world of offshore surveys, predominantly associated with oil and gas exploration but with a substantial rise in recent years in the renewable energy sector. Not wanting the life of an expat all his travel has been from his base in Cheshire, England, with each new project starting invariably at Manchester Airport.
When he set out to be a writer Alan had no idea that his third novel Woollyback would be the first to be published or that it would go on to be chosen by the UK Film Council for a tutored adaptation into a screenplay at the prestigious Bournemouth Film School. After completing the adaptation Alan was persuaded to stay on and study for a Masters in Screenwriting which he duly completed in 2006. After numerous re-writes Woollyback was a finalist in the UK screenplay competition at the London Independent Film Festival in 2009.
Alan has since made three short films, adapted his second published novel North Sea Tigers into a six-part TV drama, and has a film company looking to produce Pyramid Players, a UK feature based on his first, as yet unpublished novel. He has three other feature films in development.
A Gap Year for Life: Memoirs of a Geo is Alan's humorous first-hand account of travel, toil and tribulations in the often not-so-high-tech marine survey industry.
