The 1960 British stage version of Cole Porter's Aladdin has always been my preference over the US tv version with the great Cyril Ritchard, Sal Mineo and the delightful Anna Maria Alberghetti. The US version is terrific, but the Brit version really takes it over the top! The wonderful Doretta Morrow, who shined in Kismet, the King and I and Marco Polo, is simply perfection! She bewitches in her delivery of the title song, "Aladdin" and "I Am Loved"! In fact the entire cast is flawless. Bob Monkhouse is charming in the duet "There Must Be Someone For Me', the hilarious "No Wonder Taxes Are High" and "Come To The Supermarket". At the time, this show was woefully underrated, but time, I think, will bear out its' greatness. I have patiently waited for this cd release for years...now at last it is here! A delight indeed! As a bonus they have also included selections from a British pantomime version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.
