Book Description

31 Dec 1992 0946621314 978-0946621316
In this work, here presented in a complete English edition for the first time, the problem of knowing God is confronted in an original and stimulating way. Taking up the Prophet's teaching that 'Ninety-nine Beautiful Names' are truly predicated of God, the author explores the meaning and resonance of each of these divine names, and reveals the functions they perform both in the cosmos and in the soul of the spiritual adept. Although some of the book is rigorously analytical, the author never fails to attract the reader with his profound mystical and ethical insights, which, conveyed in his sincere and straightforward idiom, have made of this book one of the perennial classics of Muslim thought, popular among Muslims to this day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Authentic source book for the 99 Names 17 Dec 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a well written, quality translation. The Names are presented in very readable English of Al-Ghazali's deep reflection on the Names including relevant verses and ahadith. I've always felt that this treatise has been overlooked for a long time. There are some insights to the 99 Names of God which will be of interest to people of all faiths, as the book resonates with deep spirituality. Though by no means comprehensive (the only reason I have given it four not five is that I feel more could have been fitted in the book, especially since it was published by the very capable people at The Islamic Text's Society), it's a good springboard to discovering what the Ninety-Nine Names of Allah mean. This book will probably be read more by those who are of an academic turn of mind. But nonetheless, patient readers will still gain quite a lot from it.

5.0 out of 5 stars BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE 12 May 2009
By Said Huber - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali (1058-1111) q.A.s. was an Islamic theologian, jurist, philosopher, cosmologist, psychologist and mystic who remains one of the most celebrated, respected and beloved scholars and sufi masters in the history of Islam.

Al-Ghazali shares in his masterpiece his deep knowledge of ALLAH s.t. as well as his infinite love for God's last messenger, Muhammad Habib'Ullah (s.A.s.). The author explores the meaning and resonance of each of the Divine Names, and reveals the function they perform in the universe and in our souls (if we shape ourselves accordingly). For that purpose al-Ghazali derives counsels from these Divine Names: unforgettable is for example the counsel derived from the Divine Name `Al-Basir' - The All-Seeing - in which al-Ghazali describes in a very sweet way the being of Jesus (peace be upon him) and of all creatures that are like him...

In short: al-Ghazali's counsels derived from the Divine Names are destined to help us see the change we want to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Characters of God 18 Sep 2007
By Ctrader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
it explains the names and characters of God in a brief yet sufficient and spiritual way. make you feel that you are not alone and god can help you because he has all what it takes to help whenever you need. you well feel secure and save even when you review couple of those characters. some times even one explanation will change your mood to the better in very short time. you will feel that all the problems could be solved all your wants and needs can be obtained. you will feel supported and satisfied. just keep reading even a little bit every day or every week. it is very good book. and I highly recommend it for those seeking tranquility and peace.
