Book Description

13 July 2010 Akira (del Rey) (Book 3)
IN THE 21ST CENTURY, the glittering Neo-Tokyo has risen from the rubble of a Tokyo destroyed by an apocalyptic telekinetic blast from a young boy called Akira—the subject of a covert government experiment gone wrong now imprisoned for three decades in frozen stasis. But Tetsuo, an unstable youth with immense paranormal abilities of his own, has done the unthinkable: He has released Akira and set into motion a chain of events that could once again destroy the city and drag the world to the brink of Armageddon. Resistance agents and an armada of government forces race against the clock to find the child with godlike powers before his unstoppable destructive abilities are unleashed.

One of the true international classics of graphic fiction, Akira has once again taken America by storm. Artist/writer/filmmaker Katsuhiro Otomo is acclaimed worldwide as a master storyteller, and Akira showcases Otomo at the peak of his creative form. Akira is a timeless, epic work of unforgettable beauty, horror, and imagination.

4.0 out of 5 stars Akira volume 3 18 Feb 2013
By Max
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Akira the smash hit anime film even in its manga form is astounding. The third installment continues the story, this is a bench mark in both manga and anime. You should defiantly pick this series up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series. But pay your taxes, Amazon! 4 Dec 2012
By David
Format:Paperback
I loved Akira. The film, the book. But anyway, I wish Amazon would pay tax in the UK. Taxes pay for schools that teach people to read. People who read buy books from Amazon. It's money they owe. Pay up Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, this one is chaotic. 8 Jun 2012
By Sethicus - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Vol. 3 of Akira is pure chaos.

Akira, after being awoken from his cryogenic slumber in vol. 2, is now in the hands of Kaneda, Kei and Kei's uber-mother Chiyoko ("one bad Mama" as an unfortunate guard describes her after foolishly stepping in her path). But it doesn't last for long as we see Akira fall in and out of the hand's of just about every character introduced in the series so far. Everyone wants him but nobody can hold onto him! Some of it seems like a pointless game of hot-potato but it still provides a plethora of action (gun fights, gun fights and more gun fights!) and even a good deal of humor.

Of course, like the actual game of hot potato, the potato eventually gets too hot to handle and we are treated to an astonishing ending. Seriously, the end of this volume is so intense, it left me exhausted like I had just come back from the gym.

It's not the best volume I have read so far though (that would probably be vol.2). Like I said before, some of the action seems a little pointless and Tetsuo's (nearly) complete absence of this volume feels a little jarring after becoming so drawn into his character from vol.2. But for the absolutely outstanding ending, I have to give this one a perfect score. Bravo Mr. Ohtomo!
5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, Unexpected, Amazing 1 Mar 2014

Akira is like nothing else I've ever read. Volume 3 is where the story escalates from a chase through Neo-Tokyo to global catastrophe. The art is amazing. The details of such wide spread destruction is staggering. The last 30 pages of this volume will drop your jaw and leave you ordering the next volume immediatly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect collection! 23 Feb 2013

First off, Akira was one of the first few animes I've ever watched (Hokuto no Ken being one of my top tier favorites) and it's without a doubt a true classic. Secondly, I knew the manga would show at the minimum 50% more than what the original video animation showed and I was VERY satisfied with the original story development and conclusion. Finally, I bought all 6 volumes and it was one of the best purchases I've ever made online. I highly recommended that you own this very unique and awesome manga collection that's easily a top 10 of all time in my opinion. And also, in my opinion, nothing beats Berserk as far as Seinen manga is concerned ;).

I've been buying these graphic novels for my husband, who loves the series. They've been a huge hit, and Amazon's prices are well below the competition. Definitely would recommend for those into sci-fi graphic novels.
