An Interesting Historical Artifact & Great Music to Boot 4 Mar 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The disc includes a wide selection of radio broadcasts by the masters of close harmony, The Boswell Sisters. Complete with on-air intros, which are sometimes sappy, it's like a bit of old-time radio on your cd player. The songs are great, and the jazzy performances by the Boswells are uniformly terrific. There is a little duplication (two renditions of Liza Lee, for instance), and not the best version of the wonderful Heebie Jeebies, but it's wonderful to hear these amazing voices as they would have been heard over the air by my grandparents. Sound quality is, as to be expected for early 1930s vintage recordings, a little tinny and crackly, but they're definitely acceptable for what they are. The joy and warmth of this trio just exudes from the sound to the point that you won't help but be smiling before long. Highly recommended.

Rare Boswell Sisters radio broadcasts from the 30's 12 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Great 30's radio broadcasts by perhaphs the greatast jazz group ever to record(Lambet, Hendricks, and Ross come in 2nd place. These rare sessions feature Connee Bosewll palying piano and the three sisters hot harmonizing, Connee's vocal solos are hot and full of her sensious New Orleans accent, you'd swear you were listening to three colored girls. As Connee Boswell would say honey chile you're gonna love this, yah suh, yah suh. Highly recommended!

Air Shots &Rarities 1930-35 8 Sep 2006
By Mariah - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This CD consistently contains the most beautiful mellow harmonizing, with snappy lyrics. #nine song is a less than 2 minutes ditty, that is comical: "When I kiss a cutie, no matter who, I'm in training for you". I don't care for the Heebie Jeebies rendition, but it's only 1.40 minutes long, so who cares! I like every single one of the rest, and THAT's unusual. I enjoyed this CD so much, I bought a second, so I could lend it out, and always have a backup copy, in case it got scratched or lost. This is a true collectable that you don't have to suffer through just to hear a few good ones.

The ORIGINAL Singing Sister Act 4 Feb 2009
By David P. Marchant - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
The Boswells broke ground that the Andrew Sisters would tread perhaps more famously, but not more expertly. Their vocal arrangements are often most effective when accompanied by a lone piano, but they shine in front of a swingin' band as well. Their tight harmonies and often surprising changes in tempo and emphasis shine a new light on the many chestnuts of the American songbook that they first brought to the fore. Of particular interest on this album are the lesser known titles like "The Wah Wah Girl From Agua Caliente". The scratchiness of the needle on old 78's only enhances the feeling of mining forgotten treasures when listening to this collection.

Great 30s group 3 Oct 2009
By Michael C. Smith - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
If you like authentic music from the American song book the Boswell's have a place in your collection. These women had an intuitive ability to bring synergy to their performance. (They really were sisters). Their southern upbringing is evident and their rhythm and teamwork is frankly delightful. Highly recommended.
