As a teenager I devoured Mary Stewart's romantic suspense novels. While I have now outgrown some of her more Gothic and brooding stories, I recently reread "Airs Above the Ground" and found that it had lost none of its charm. The exotic Austrian setting -- with its mountain villages, traveling circus, and Lippizaner stallions -- is enthralling. What makes this story special, though, are the wonderful characters -- drawn here with a light touch, humor, and wonderful chemistry not always in evidence in other Mary Stewart novels. A wonderful read!
