Product Description

Product Description

The second major naval variant of the Lynx the MK3 improved upon the MK2 by the improvement of various avionic systems as well as power plant and transmission upgrades. Many specialist versions of the MK3 were produced one of the most important being the HAS MK3 ICE. This specially modified Lynx serves aboard HMS Endurance in the Antarctic. Here the Lynx undertakes important Antarctic survey work as well as SAR for any other ships operating in the region. Painted with bright Day-Glo panels the Lynxes are also equipped with cameras and other survey equipment. During Desert Storm Mk3 Lynxes destroyed 12 Iraqi vessels with their Sea Skua missiles and proved to be instrumental in defeating the Iraqi navy and allowing the coalition to safely operate in the Persian Gulf. Many MK3s have now been upgraded to MK8 specification but some continue to serve in specialised roles such as the ICE aircraft.

Do not expect this kit to be like Airfix kits of old.Years ago (decades!) Airfix kits were great fun to build and,if young, great to play with and although accurate in terms of main components, they were not great in terms of the fine details. This is no longer true.
The mould makers take a great deal of care to get things right - I know they have a great relationship with the Fleet Air Arm and spend lots of time making very detailed, accurate drawings and then moulds of the real thing.Their new 1/72 scale Swordfish is the best kit of that particular aircraft - at least as good as the now famous Tamiya 1/48 kit.
This Lynx kit is really, really good.It is highly detailed and the decals are made by Cartograf - the very good decal company from Italy.
As another reviewer has said, it is going to be a bit fiddly for children (for some of us adults too!) but it is well worth the effort.
I bought mine for about £18.00 and that is a steal -it is worth a good bit more.
There are also plenty of extras you can buy for it from such makers as Eduard - etched parts for those who want a really detailed model but this kit is high quality without those extras, in my opinion.
WELL DONE AIRFIX - This is a lovely, highly deailed first class model kit. THANK YOU!

Excellent model faithfully replicating this long lived and well known machine only recently leaving active service. As with all good replications it is fiddly to build and the small nature of the complex parts need careful handling and cleaning up - so not for the very young or the less confident beginner. Otherwise Great - recomended
