The first Panzer IV tanks were produced in 1936 and by the outbreak of the second World War some 200 were in service. It carried the 7.5cm gun with two 7.92mm machine guns. The most widely manufactured and deployed German tank of WWII, the Panzer IV. Robust and reliable, it saw service in all combat theaters involving Germany, and has the distinction of being the only German tank to remain in continuous production throughout the war, with over 8,800 produced between 1936 and 1945. The losses it felt however on the Eastern front were enourmous - throughout 1943, the German army lost 2,352, and in 1943 a further 2,643.

Airfix's tank kits haven't aged well in many instances which isn't surprising when you consider that they date from the 1960's and 1970's. Many of their aeroplane kits are also of a similar vintage but they seem to have aged better - I suspect because they are usually made from fewer, and larger, parts.
This Panzer IV kit is one kit that still makes a nice and accurate model and doesn't have any of a the glaring errors or omissions of some of their other tanks. Fit of the parts is also still pretty good although not, obviously, as precise as more modern kits by Revell and Dragon.
Another reviewer below states her son's frustration with this kit and that is understandable. There are some very small parts included here and it takes a bit of skill to get to grips with Airfix's rubbery vinyl tracks. I personally wouldn't recommend this kit to a very young or inexperienced modeller.

Good genuine airfix product, small but really well detailed, good quality parts inside box, would recommend to any airfix fan especially for the price.

This kit was undertaken by my son (11) and husband and there was little joy in constructing it owing to the excessive number of tiny parts which could have been moulded into something a little simpler. We also did a Messerschmitt which was much more satisfying. However, both came without glue or paint which was disappointing and I therefore do not think the kit represents good value, and actually can just be an exersize in frustration. I realise of course that Airfix is fiddly but the tank was no fun.
