A classic kit 18 Jun 2010
Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I've built quite a few Airfix kits; I started back in 1958 (or thereabouts) and continued at an average rate of about one a month until hormonal changes redirected my focus of attention. I have now retired, and having time on my hands I decided to revisit model construction as a way of keeping me off the street corners.

This model kit stands out as one that was an absolute delight to paint and assemble; there were no 'awkward' fits in the parts, the moulding standard was crisp and (as far as I could tell) accurate, and finishing instructions are given for three variants on a beautiful double-sided A3 (2xA4) colour sheet. The decals (water-slide transfers) are numerous and wonderfully detailed.

I can thoroughly recommend this kit; armed with a few basic tools, a little bit of filler and the appropriate paints you can be sure of a great-looking model that is extremely enjoyable to construct.

Good buy 5 Feb 2011

Just writing this really in response to the negative review - this kit doesn't claim to include paints and glue.
While the acrylic paint included sets appear to be better value for money, they do come with ACRYLIC paint, not enamel. while some acrylic paints are more than satisfactory, others require a lot of patience and several coats before an acceptable finish is achieved. Painting kits with enamel paints is more expensive (as thinners are ideally needed) however the finish, imo, is superior.

Having said that if you are after one quick and easy airfix the giftsets with paint included are probably your best bet, as buying paint separately can soon add up, particularly if you don't end up making several kits (61, flesh for example would probably do several 100 planes as the pilots faces and hands aren't that big!)

But if you are after a regular airfix kit I recommend this one happily - I'm not too bothered by historical accuracy etc however, I am simply collecting and building as many airfix as I can realistically afford to
. If you do chose to buy this kit I hope you enjoy building it as much as I did.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
I made some of the first Airfix Kits in 1957 and have never stopped.
I am incapable of resisting the temptation of yet another Hurricane and so at the age of 80 + I had to buy this one

This is an imaginative choice, being an aircraft serving with the South East Asian units (eqipped with the dreaded Vokes airflter which effectively reduced the maximum speed by 15 MPH.)

I liked the beautiful new packaging and the flash free contents.

Marvelous

I hope the younger generation appreciate this wonderful little model
