This 1/72 scale set (actually originally marketed as a 1/76 HO scale set in the 60's) represents probably one of the worst Airfix soldier sets. The figures are well moulded and flash free, but unfortunately the quality an historical accuracy of the sculpts leaves a lot to be desired.
From a historical perspective, these figures do not portray World War Two British Paratroopers accurately to any degree. First, the guns are wrong. One can only assume that the weapon that most of the soldiers in this set is meant to represent is a Thompson SMG... It's just that it's not. Not in anyone's imagination. In fact it fits no weapon used by the British in WW2 at all. Secondly, the webbing equipment worn is also wrong (where it is visible at all). Third, there is even a tube launched anti-tank weapon included similar to (but not an accurate portrayal of) a bazooka. Well, all British forces used the PIAT in WW2, not a rocket launcher as an infantry AT weapon - wrong again!
The poses you get are:
3 x para firing upwards (presumably, and uselessly with an SMG, at an aircraft)
2 x para striking down with butt of rifle (which is not an accurate representation of an Lee-Enfield No. 4 either).
2 x para standing with unidentified SMG
2 x para throwing grenade
1 x para bending over for an unknown purpose holding a map
1 x radio operator
3 x kneeling firing SMG
4 x running with SMG
1 x waving and looking at watch
2 x crawling with rifle
1 x prone, loading bazooka-alike
2 x wounded (prone, but not laying flat - they lay kind of like they are convulsing on the ground)
4 x prone, firing
1 x prone, loading bazooka-alike
2 x 3 part para landing with parachute
1 x para-dropped equipment case
1 x multi part 2 man crew and mortar
This set is an okay toy for a child, or as a trip down memory lane, but as an historically accurate military kit for diorama or wargaming use it is not suitable.
