The Bristol Beaufighter model from Airfix makes a nice finished model but lacks a lot when it comes to detail.

The basic kit is easy to make and looks good when finished. It is ideal for the novice model maker with little flash, few ejector pin marks and optional parts to make a night fighter or a more advanced fighter attack aircraft with under wing rockets and a torpedo. The outer shape is fairly accurate and the external detail is good.

Where this model falls down is in the interior. There are two figures that are poorly defined and absolutely no cockpit or rear gunner details. Thed seats are simply flat projections that are moulded into the insides of the main body halves, no real seats, no control facias... no nothing!

If you want a fast build that looks nice from a distance then you can't go wrong. If you want a model you can add lots more detail to yourself then again this could be the one for you. If you want a detailed model straight from the box, forget it.

Don't forget you will need to purchase the glue and paints in addition to this kit.

This Airfix kit first appeared in 1958 so dont expect a kit that has lots of interior detail because it doesn't. What you can expect though is a fun build that will go together quickly and look like what its supposed to be. If you add filler with some sanding sticks and wet & dry, you will have a lovely looking beaufighter when its finished. Will post a couple of pics of my torpedo version. As a reviewer said earlier there is hardly any flash to clean up and the decals went on a treat, even the invasion stripes. For less than a tenner buy one and build it, you know you want to

Famously described as 'perfectly safe, as long as there was nothing else in the sky' Airfix's kit remains a fine replica of a plane that could dish out punishment but was vulnerable to lighter, faster fighters, and is an enduring icon to the muddled thinking that compromised many British - and German - aircraft in WW2.

I first built this in the early 60s. No it isnt the most accurate but look at the price and decals.

Good fun to make and research the possible colours and changes you can make, but

great if youve just started(one of my earlier kits-years ago).Decent size for what you pay. weapon choices and if you are not up to painting yet ,decals that brighten it up--and cover any glue marks.

Get one before its replaced by one twice the price

Great Novice Model 22 Jan. 2013

This is agreat model for the beginer or those new to modeling. Tho some of the parts arfe very delicate this is a beauty when finished. Not that many pieces to keep track of and it goes to gether easily. Since I am just getting back into the modeling hobby after more than a 20 year break I used this as a practice model to hone my skills before tackiling the more expensive and complex models.
