"Move over Twilight! Here comes Aaron Patterson!"
--Joshua Graham, bestselling author of Beyond Justice and Darkroom

"I was surprised by how much I really, really liked this book. I have not jumped on the whole "fallen angel" bandwagon, just as I didn't jump on all of the vampire stories that came out after Twilight. This is not your typical fallen angel story. It is one that has left me breathlessly waiting for the next one in the series. Hurry up please!!!"
--Sandra Stiles

Bestselling thriller writer Aaron Patterson, teams up with Chris White, in this exciting new, young adult paranormal romance series!

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
AIREL is a young adult paranormal story about an angel who falls so deeply in love with a woman that he chooses to fall from heaven to be with her. She gives birth to a daughter in Arabia, 1250BC. The girl is pursued ferociously, relentlessly by an enemy in the deepest darkness.

In present day, Boise, Idaho is just a girl: Airel. She's just your average high school student...who turns out to be anything but average. It's because of who she is, because of her ancestry, because of her lineage. Past and present crash in on each other in the final pages as what has been twisted comes dangerously unraveled.

REVIEWS:
"It takes rare talent for a man to write a novel from a male POV and have it published to great critical and commercial acclaim. But it takes a miracle for that same male, or in this case males, to write a novel from the POV of a teenage girl and have it turn out as incredibly as did the new StoneHouse YA by Aaron Patterson and Chris White, AIREL. From the first sentence, I felt compelled to dive into this young woman's story and just as importantly, I felt like I personally knew her, which means I laughed, stressed and cried right along with her. A beautifully written and crafted fiction about teenage innocence, faith, loss and love. A must read for teens and adults alike."
--Vincent Zandri, International Bestselling Author of The Remains, The Innocent, and Concrete Pearl

"I am happy to say that this novel is one of my favorites of its kind. I never thought I could read a novel like this and be so swept away! I am always willing to try new books, but I usually steer clear of this kind of novel. Not anymore! Not when I can be so engrossed into the character's story, like I was with the beautiful AIREL, that before I know, it's over. I kept turning the pages , wanting to, no-NEEDING, to know what was going to happen next."
--Molly Edwards, Willow Spring, NC

EXCERPT:
There, standing two feet from me, was Michael Alexander. My heart jumped and -- I swear -- it stopped. Now he was right in front of me, with a slight smile on his face. He had the most gorgeous crystal blue eyes I had ever seen in my life. I didn't know how I kept from fainting.

Kim stepped into the middle of all of us, cutting in between us. Some other jock guy I hadn't noticed was standing next to Michael. "Hi, I'm Kim... you new to town? How do you like it here?" I groaned, hiding my face behind my locker door, secretly peeking out, wondering what I did to deserve this. Kim and her big fat mouth.

Michael looked at her, then around her, in my direction, and smiled. "Hey, I'm Michael Alexander." Clearly, he was answering her politely, but not talking to her at all. I looked at him from behind my locker door and flushed.

About the Author

Aaron Patterson is the author of the best-selling WJA series, as well as two Digital Shorts: 19 and The Craigslist Killer. He was home-schooled and grew up in the west. Aaron loved to read as a small child and would often be found behind a book, reading one to three a day on average. This love drove him to want to write, but he never thought he had the talent. His wife Karissa prodded him to try it, and with this encouragement, he wrote Sweet Dreams, the first book in the WJA series, in 2008. Airel is his first teen series, and plans for more to come are already in the works. He lives in Boise, Idaho with his family, Soleil, Kale and Klayton. Chris White has an award for reading 750 books in one school year — from the 3rd grade. So yes, he’s more of a nerd than Aaron. Chris loves history, Sherlock Holmes, and anything that’s not virtual, like old motorcycles and mechanical typewriters. He also doesn’t get why we have these things called “smart phones” when all they do is make people dumber. Chris recently celebrated 10 years of marriage with his wife, April, and has two boys: Noah, age 8, and Jaden, age 3, who inspired the Great Jammy Adventure series; the OK-to-color-in picture books. Chris is working on a short story called The Marsburg Diary that will further explore the prologue to Airel, and he is finishing up his first novel, entitled K: phantasmagoria, due out in 2011. Chris has a major crush on Audrey Hepburn, who is now dead. His wife is okay with all of this.

Airel has been experiencing some signs of illness recently. She's also falling hard for handsome newcomer Michael, and it is during their first date that she witnesses a murder. The killer knows that she saw him and soon he is stalking her, looking for an opportunity to silence her.

This is a book of two parts which merge well. The first is the tale of Airel and seems initially fairly mundane despite the odd hints that things aren't quite normal. Airel is a teenager falling in love for the first time, who is unlucky enough to witness a murder and the killer knows she can identify him. The second is far more magical. Set in 1250 B.C. it tells the tale of Kreios; an angel who chose to fall in love and fall from heaven. He is dealing with the grief of losing his mortal wife, whilst he and his beloved daughter are at risk from angelic enemies the Brotherhood.

The 2 stories quickly merge as Airel discovers her unusual heritage. The pace, action and fantasy elements all work well, plus the histories of Kreios and the Brotherhood are interesting and creative. I did though easily anticipate the several twists these authors produced fairly early on in the book; however "Airel" still proved to be a highly entertaining read despite the lack of surprises.

I couldnt put this book down. The combination of writers is just magical.
Yes it took a while to get to the point and initially you wonder why you are swept back to 1200 BC... but stay with the book! The story grows and is powerful enough to give you goosebumps.
Well written and just a lovely lovely book!

Airel 13 May 2012

I got this eBook when it was available as a free download from Amazon, I had heard good things about it, loved the cover and wanted to find out for myself what it was like.

I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed, although there were some parts that I enjoyed there just wasn't enough of them and on the whole I found it really difficult to stay interested. Normally when I'm reading nothing can distract me from the book but with this I was very easily distracted and didn't feel the urgent need to carry on to find out what happens next.

I did like the idea for the story and some of the parts I enjoyed were: Airel's reaction when she first saw Michael, the cinema scene that got my heart pounding and raised lots of questions, and the final battle where everything seemed to happen so quickly.

This book jumps back and forth from the present day to 1250 B.C. and while this history was vital to the rest of the story I think this was one of the problems for me, I found myself rushing through the 1250 B.C. parts because it just didn't interest me, there was too much of it.

Towards the end of the book there were a few unexpected twists which piqued my interest for a while and I felt that the characters were finally who they should be, they seemed to be much more confident in themselves.

This is a dark story with some surprising twists that I'm sure plenty of people would really enjoy with its battles and history, unfortunately it just wasn't for me.
